Auto gearbox rotary gear selector stuck in park

I have an intermittent problem with the gear selector on 2015 D4 with 96K on the clock which will not move from Park after then engine has been started it first happened about 5 months ago and after a few attempts it appeared to resovle itself and has been fine for the last 5 months.

Over the weekend it happened again. This time after a couple of successful attempts, I turned the engine off and immediatley restarted the engine - I don't think the selector had fully retracted when I started the engine. This got me back on the road and may be worth ago if you find yourself stuck in park.
I assume that as this has happened a second time, whether it is time to look at replacement switch. Any thoughts or advice?

I had exactly the same issue (also on a 15 plate D4), only did it just the once while I had the car but quite disconcerting when it happens. Never got it resolved so I hope you find the cause Thumbs Up

Transfer Shift Control module is faulty. Fairly common for the motor that raises the twist knob to fail.

Definitely get it replaced, it will lock up and leave you stranded sooner rather than later. Easy switch out but they are not cheap.

If the selector is raising but will not turn it is the interlock not working. (activated when you apply the brake). This happened on mine. I replaced it with a used unit from a breakers £68. Its a straight forward job to replace. Plug and play. No need to reprogram. Doctored the faulty unit and leave it in the car just in case it happens again.
