My Auto Keeps Stalling

Why does my car keep stalling FFS just when you need the power it stalls. The Blue Pearl never stalled. Oh There is an F word as CarlS vents his frustration so keep the volume down if in an office or around little or infirm people.

Check out the proof.

I'm guessing it could be a few things. As an armchair expert rather than a real one, from reading the site I'd suggest the following:
1) Left EGR
2) Right EGR
3) Both EGR
4) Collapsing Turbo Hose (similar effect caused by wet/clogged air filter)
5) HP Fuel pump not delivering (is yours in the VIN range for the recalls that everyone other than Treasure Island inhabitants are getting changed to a safe one for free?)
6) Something else... Rolling Eyes

What I can't figure out is what the 'lowering revs' noise is after the stall. Is this the turbo or the torque converter? Sounds quite loud for either of them; perhaps that would be a good starting point?

Transgenic tomato anyone?

Confused

Ive only had mine stall once and that was when I had a LOT of wheel spin then sudden grip. the TC came in, power dropped and engine stalled. I assume it was the car protecting itself so nowt got broken....

I would look into the torque converter, It could be in full lockup
when you hit the brakes Question or does it stall before. Can't see the
EGR's playing a part in this.

My 57 plate does it when the revs are up around the 4k mark whilst wheel spinning, probably not the right way to drive off-road I suppose.

I think its the auto box or torque converter not doing something they should. Its as if the TC is applying the brakes and stalling the engine like the D2 would.

It happens in Low Box, In all terrain settings, In 1st 2nd 3rd and Drive. DSC on or off.

When applying power to climb, the revs start to die and then it stalls. The more power applied usually results in a more sever or quicker stall. I have been able to prevent the stall a few times by quickly applying the brakes, at this moment in time the engine revs are down to just about stalling speed whilst still in a forward gear. Stick the box into N and the revs creep back up to tick-over.

If wheels are spinning at speed whilst some are trying to dig in for traction, at these revs is there not a danger of transmission wind up or something similar, therefore the engine is cut as a safety precaution?

Just a thought.

Thumbs Up

However transmission wind up is caused by grip not lack of. To be honest the revs don't have to be really high to stall the engine.

I think ronp is on to some thing here, what if all the wheels
suddenly got full traction in this scenario, it could turn out very
expensive Big Cry The engine de rating would be a programmed
safety feature, but should not stall it. It appears that the torque
converter is not unlocking or disengaging sufficiently to allow the
engine to go into idle mode. In my view I would say the electronics
need to be looked at, I've not stalled mine yet, but did have a
power loss last year on a slippery hill.
