But the auto headlights will be impossible without the dash sensor though. Totally agree with most parts being retro fitted, but a S model, SE model etc etc will only be worth that wotever toys have been added.

Why do you wan auto headlamps? Is it too much trouble to turn the switch Smile ?
yes you can do things manually like the wipers and lights but why even ask this question, why should you have to do it manually. if you had an auto gearbox and had to change it manually would you accept that ? you pay for something and no matter how trivial it is you expect it to work. so why the f##k dont they and why cant people express their dissappointment either.

CW, Have another look at my post and the original posing.
I was trying to say it may not be worth the hassle/cost to retrofit something that was not there and might not be that useful. I even used a Smile to try to emphasis this. If you'd bothered to read my post and the OP before you launched into flame mode you would have seen that they are not defective on the OP's vehicle, they are not there. I admit to using and liking the auto wipers so am not someone who dismisses technology, it is just that there are times where a person can make a better judgement than a sensor. Why waste money?

Read the last page !!!! Laughing

As PaulP and myself has explained ...the auto lights are worked off the sensor in the windscreen Thud

The dash sensor has no bearing on the auto headlights ...

Heres what it does

AMBIENT LIGHT SENSOR
An ambient light sensor is located in the instrument cluster, adjacent to the alarm indicator. The ambient light sensor is a phototransistor which measures the available ambient light.
The phototransistor measures the ambient light (lux) level and passes a signal value for the available light level to the instrument cluster microprocessor. The instrument cluster software adjusts the display brightness of the message center and information display LCD's accordingly to ensure that the displays are clearly visible during day and night time driving.

why bother, the post wasnt directed at Renny but the general attitude to these posts about auto this and that, I just happened to quote his post. they should work and people have a right to express their dissatisfaction

and where would this be then Rolling Eyes and as for wasting money all those that have auto functions and dont/cant use them have wasted money have they not and if you read my post you will see I like them and think they work fine. just because they dont come on in a tunnel doesnt mean they are naff it just means the D3 believes you have enough light and it is always right in my vehicle. how many vehicles have auto lights and if not do they switch on in a tunnel or similar. probably not because they have enough light to see where they are going. right Im off to get some more gas (unsure as to what emoticon needs to be placed here so please yourself)

Having read most of your posts during the last couple of years, I would guess that it was probably around 4134 posts ago Whistle

Rolling with laughter Excuse my cynicism, but it is Friday after all Wink

For the record, my auto lights and wipers are nowhere near as good as those on our VW Golf. They seem to have a mind of their own and I agree with most people that their operation is a bit dodgy and should have been improved.

Saying this, as CW says, when it is dark, the lights always come on and when it rains, the wipers always work. I use them all the time and thing they're a great feature, but their implementation is pretty flawed compared.

How's that for taking the middle ground Whistle
