Auto Lights Permanently On

I seem to have acquired a new problem. Jumped in the D3 yesterday at 7 (it having been parked on the drive since Monday night) and even though it was still bright the auto lights came on Confused

I drove to Birmingham and back last night in the dark so couldn't be sure.

I drove to work this morning and the auto lights are back on again in bright daylight Confused

First - where is the sensor? Is it the half marble sized blob on the dash on the corner of the speaker on the dash top under the windscreen?

Second - has anyone else seen this problem? I can't remember whether they were fine before last weekend but I'm slightly worried that I may have upset something when I had the front off (and headlights out) last week doing the nudge-bar. I know I was careful to make sure no wires were pinched or snagged under the bumper cover or behind the headlights. Also when I had to park the car in the dark, I purposely turned off the lights before turning the ignition so it wouldn't get confused by a lack of headlights. Manually the headlights work fine - I checked them.

sensor for auto lights and auto wipers is behind the rear view mirror.
check the winscreen here to see if it is clean.
the black button on top of the dash is the sun load sensor for the climate control air con.

I never use auto lights - they always seemed to be on for me too. That and the fact there's no light on the dash to tell you whether they are on or off, so it's difficult to tell in some light (daytime), means they are too much hassle IMO.

A good knob twiddle has done me fine all these years...

Have you had the enhancement done yet?
I seem to remember someone saying this sorted this issue.
Mine will come on with a setting sun behind me still.

Nope - I've been looking for an excuse to go visit GS again, now's the time I think.

That's a good thing, anyone driving towards you (and the sun) to has a better chance of seeing you. The End

The lack of dash-indication as to whether the lights are on irks me too. The missus, however, is not bothered by this....

Steve, try a 'hard reset' as detailed here
TBH, i'd rather have the lights coming on 'early' than have to start wondering if they're on or off, the change in the message centre illumination level usually catches my peripheral vision anyway. I really don't care about some form of indicator, I just let them do their job Wink
As has been mentioned before, if the auto lights don't suit (you can't please all of the people all of the time) then use the magic of 'fingers' and resort to manual override 8) Thud

Doesn't bother me, if they're on they're on, if they're not they're not! The End

I agree 100%.... as one of the reliable features you cant knock it!

now the auto wipers on the otherhand.. has anyone elses been erratic since the upgrade? in heavy rain and spray on motorway the other night they were all over the place, one min too slow then ok. I know they adjust based on amount of water, but they couldnt cope which has never happened before.
