FYI: I bought the replacement parts from AF to give this a try and see if it fixed my issue. The bush was well and truly seized to the lever so very likely the cause.



I swapped it out for the new parts and WOW!!!, what a difference it makes to the gear selection. So smooth!!! Went for a short test drive and all seems well. Have a longer drive planned so fingers crossed this has resolved the issue.

Massive thanks to Disco Mikey once again for this how to and this forum which just keeps on giving!

I'll be honest, I haven't read all 14 pages of this thread, but in case it hasn't been shared before, I also found this video of this job really useful too.

Edit: Completed long drive (3 hour round trip) today and all good!!!! Thanks again so much!!

Thanks to the tips from Mikey on the forum I bought the kit from LR dealer for about £20.00 and when the car was serviced in March all was replaced and the car has never dropped out of gear since.

But the parking sensors are still causing me a problem.

Before the gear selector parts were changed, I removed the rear bumper and replaced the two centre rear sensors, reattached everything and the sensors were working fine.

But have gone again leaving me with a high pitched Beep when put into reverse and the dash light continually flashing until I turn it off.

I am now guessing the sensors are OK but the loom is perhaps not good.

Any ideas before I again go about removing the bumper it is a real hassle particularly getting the mud flaps off.

You’re right, yes I’ve seen that. He did try to remove the top nut first, but he broke the bolt.
From what I’ve seen was very rusty and they didn’t use any penetrating spray or even a wire brush 😳

My concern now, is how to fix it????? 😐

Sounds like he’s been a bit rough!

Disco Mikey is the best guru to ask but i think its a gearbox strip at the least to get at the actuator and replace the shaft etc. unless you can leave everything in place and put a spot of weld onto the end of the shaft (without frying the seals) to hold it altogether, hope you get it sorted.

well i guess you drain the oil.
remove the plastic sump (cut the filter pipe off with a blade)
remove the valve block
and hope you can fix it !

In auto My car gets into drive but won't change gear, so it seems like your stuck in first, is there a chance this could be the issue?
