Aux battery
I've got a split charge system fitted by the previous owner. The problem I have is the battery that came with the car is a standard car battery and it doesn't fit properly.
Can anyone advise the best battery for the job.

The search facility is your friend It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I'm guessing you want a replacement auxiliary battery - fitted in the driver side (if RHD) box - the one with the brake fluid reservoir?
If so something around 242 x 175 x 190 millimeters will fit - at least that's what I use albeit I've removed the backup alarm sounder.
You'll want a leisure battery. Lots recommend Optima Yellowtop - I've had one before and wasn't impressed given the cost. My current one (2 years old) is the sort used on caravans etc and I've had no issues - especially at 1/3 the cost of a Yellowtop.I see no ships........

I suppose it comes down to whether or not you want the option to use it as a backup cranking battery (and whether or not your split charge system allows you to do that) - if so then a yellow top is a good compromise as it theoretically has the benefits of a deep cycle for leisure use, but can also deliver a lot of amps very quickly for cranking. If not then a deep cycle leisure battery would be ideal.D3 2005 HSE

Stay clear of the yellow top, quality is crap since they started making them in Mexico, you can fit an 85ah AGM if you cut a hole in the aux. cover.
Heat isnt an issue and mine is still good after 5 years.

So, what is the issue with the yellow top? ……. as ‘crap’ doesn’t explain the reasons.
Says the man who’s just bought a 75ah YT in readiness to fit a split charge system. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.
I agree with loanrangie, I have had two yellow tops and both failed just after 15 months of use, I fit have now fitted an Odessy as my aux battery and still going strong after 4 years with my 15 year oldTraxide kit.

They swell and drop cells, had numerous reports from owners. Used to last 5-6 years but not anymore.
Most here fit a SSB dry cell AGM which is 80 or 85AH and fits in place of the YT albeit slightly taller i believe.

Thanks for that.
Unfortunately now too late for me to change.
But now I know what the potential issues are, I'll keep a look out.I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.
