Hi Folks,
I was just looking into the Optima Yellow Top batteries mentioned here. I presume there was a typo in an earlier entry - and the right battery is a D34 (rather than R34).
Of those that installed this battery, what did you use for a tray? I hate the thought of H2SO4 dribbling onto the D3 body.
Cheers,
Rob

Howdy
well, i finally took some pics and have included them in my gallery complete with a battery manuf. plate shot - its is a d34 (on mine at least)

no real problems since installation. I will be running a fridge for the next 4 days, so it will be a good load test. I'll let you know if I have any problems.
I did't use a tray - in theory this is a gel cell and shouldn't leak. its the same set up as the main batt.

Jonesy63,
The Optima is indeed a gel battery and you shouldn't have H2SO4 dribbling anywhere. As I recall the original battery is mounted the same way I (we) have mounted the Yellow Top.
For those that are interested: I have been running an Engel (40litre) for about 3 months almost continously from the Aux Battery now. The Yellow Top lives on strong as does the SC-40LR isolator from Drivesafe... To be fair it does get a decent run (and therefore charge) most days. I have corrected my esrlier post in this thread. My Yellow Top is a D34. Appologies for any confusion. Thanks Haggis!
I thought it might have been a typo, but wanted to make sure.

OK, I've been on 2 trips with the AUX battery installed and here's my findings:
Firstly, everything seems to be ok. No issues with charging, isolator working well, power delivery fine.
Secondly, thank God I put in 2 aux sockets as even with a double adapter, when you have multiple people charging phones, a fridge, a PSP and other stuff you need lots of outlets.
Finally, no problem with power throughput or fusus. I ran 15 amp cable and 20 amp fuses - not the real hevay stuff that other people have run. No problems though.
See my gallery for details.

That's great! Didn't want your car contributing to Global Warming whilst your fuse sat there saying "I can handle this, bring it on!"
Thanks for the info on your mod by the way, the Aux battery and permanent sockets mod is one I have on my own want list, at least once I get the FBH manual/remote start-up sorted out... Dr. Ian Malcolm:
