Aux Socket

I have just purchased a used 05 base spec disco.

The salesman advisded that it had mp3 and power socket which would be good for the kides!

However, on getting it home neither work. Checked fuses all ok.

Looking at the forum I found that the console can be easily removed, which I did only to find the the power socket was wrapped in foam and not even connected! Have corrected that, but also found that there are two unconnected green plugs neither of which fit the green socket in the back of the aux socket. I assume these two sockets maybe speakers or something else?

Do I need an adapter for the socket for the aux?

Many thanks

buffers51,
The problem with using an MP3 player on the aux socket is the low power output have you tried the volume right up?
Apologies for stating the obvious but you never know. Thumbs Up

Welcome to the site Thumbs Up

The 2 green identical connectors are for heated rear seats.

You will need to look for another green connector with red / blue and 2 black wires ..this is the connector needed for the aux socket ...thats even if your car should have one .

The power socket wrapped in foam would suggest that maybee someone has replaced the panel with a new higher spec one containing the aux socket .

I too have found the low output of iPod to be a problem and although turning up the wick works, when switching back to radio the ear drums hurt for weeks, so Griffin make a power lead with built in amplifier that has adjustable output so a balance can be acheived with radio and cd inputs, about 20 quid I think i paid. now works fine. Thumbs Up

As per Wiggs - as you have got a base spec D3 (so have I) you will not be able to connect to the aux socket as the wiring is not there back to the audio unit. You could however do the 2 alternative aux connections options which have been well documented on here and run the cabling to the aux socket if you are feeling diy handy and ok with a soldering iron. If you do either of the alternative options volume should not be an issue Thumbs Up

The power socket wrapped in foam if I am correct is the connector plug you are referring to which then goes on the back of the power socket, mine was like this from new so as left factory. Some base D3's in that year did come with the power & aux sockets already fitted on the back of the console - some did not as I discovered and kicked off at my dealership about it!!!

Thumbs Up

Guys

Many thanks, I will leave the re-wiring for the aux socket (I didn't really want to suffer listening to the kids mp3's!), at least the power socket now works which the kids can connect their dvds too,

kind regards
