Aux vs fibre for aftermarket head unit

I've seen a lot of posts about connecting after market head units either through the AUX port or getting an adapter to convert the head unit output to use the MOST loop to communicate with the amp.

Just wondering what the actual difference is in sound output given that both solutions connect to the front F/L outputs of the new head unit?

I have the HK Logic 7 with a chinese head unit replacing the sat nav, currently wired up through aux.

I would think it doesn’t matter. As long as the cabling to the aux input doesn’t introduce massive interference, the difference between two cheap DACs is far less important than how the speakers are mounted and cabled and how good the amp is.

Limited Volume on AUX

I'm not an expert but tried many different setups and the AUX output only will turn up fo 35, on my 2005 LR3.
Never did find out how to make it louder. I even installed one up front by splicing it in on the back of the radio.

That must be an insane volume level - I’ve got mine on 7 or 8 usually Shocked

Iphone on max through the aux, 35 max on the head unit = what i use in rare occasions, like playing my favourite song, when driving 80 mls/h, but, indeed.. “loud enough” imho Whistle

Interesting. The volume is plenty loud for both music and telephone calls when iPhone volume is 3/4 and the HKL7 is on 7-8 but I’m not via aux.

You reacted on statement from “ruper” and he spoke about AUX….at 35
Bottom line, AUX input does dampening the input, so does it have effect on the output volume in the end….

Non AUX has higher output…(in my D3)

Maybe 35 is pretty high

So, I have been having issues, and got it down to a problem with the radio. I got a used one off Ebaby and put it in today. Checking it all out after setting the clock of course and hit AUX, and ripped the volume up to 35.
Well, it was rather louder than I remember, as a matter of fact, my radio must have been on the way out cause there is no way my hearing got better.

And I thought I was getting bagged on for being deaf, but it must have been playing half its max this whole time. Owned it for 3 yrs now.
