Auxiliary battery change
Hi and first time post. I’ve bought a new auxiliary battery (eco light constantly illuminated) and wondered whether this is something I can do myself without damaging the vehicle electronics? Or does it need some kind of dealer re-set? Thanks.

As above is the official way to do it, but there is no reason why you can’t just change it taking usual precautions, it just takes the BMS a little while longer to know it has got a new battery fitted, don’t charge the new battery before fitting. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I just changed mine myself. Instant fix for the eco light. I didn’t realise a Battery Management System reset was supposed to be done, so I didn’t do one (as didn’t have the diagnostic tool to do it). Mine was fine . The battery in the UK for my 2015 registered car is an Exide EK151. Buying that model instead of the Land Rover branded version of it is about 1/3 of the price here.
Come back if you get any issues, or have further questions.
Good luck

One question that comes up when people do this is getting the connection of the terminals. All you need to do on the positive terminal is prise up the red terminal cover and undo the nut. There’s no need to do anything with the black cover behind it.
Interested to know how it goes on your car in Australia, hopefully the same.
Link to similar thread and picture of the terminal covers I mentioned above.

Thanks for the replies gents. I’ll have a crack at it over the next few days. Today is public holiday here in New Zealand so I can’t pick up the battery until tomorrow. One question though, should I disconnect the main battery before changing the auxiliary battery?

Oops, so sorry about the Australia comment. Didn't have my glasses on when I looked at the flag, and certainly didn't latch on to your forum name. Sorry about that.
I don't believe I disconnected the the main battery when I did mine . Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chip in shortly.
Good luckGary

Wondered if you could advise where the battery is situated

The battery is located at the rear LHS of the engine bay viewed from the front. There is a plastic cover over it which unclips and can be removed. My battery had a thin EPC sleeve over it as well. Replacement is very easy. The trickiest part is accessing the clamp bracket nut which is located at the base of the battery and needs a thin extension bar to reach. Whole job took about 30 minutes.
