Available Soon idea
Once again I turn my mind to replacing my 2010 D4. I'd love to buy a forum member's car and even more I'd like to think that all the love and attention that I put into my D4 would be passed onto another forum member.
The reality is though, that very few of the newer examples change hands on the forum. This is probably because when spending £30k+ its hard to go down the private sale route, it's just easier usually to chop the car in.
Many of the ads for the higher value vehicles seem to be placed once the new vehicle has been found/ordered as an alternative to px which only leaves a week or so for perspective buyers to consider then think about how they are going to get that sort of cash available for transfer in a relatively short time.
I wondered if there was any merit/usefulness in an 'Vehicles Available Soon' section under vehicles for sale? All the vehicles details/pictures could be posted up along with a guide as to approximately when it would be available. Some forum rules would be needed e.g. probably available no more than 3 months away and importantly at this stage it wouldn't need a price as it's not for sale yet.
At least it would give peeps an idea of what's likely to be coming up in the future and more time to make considered decisions and arrangements that might help to keep the forum member's cars in the forum?
Just a thought - feel free to tell me I've gone bonkers if it doesn't make sense.

You've gone bonkers! No seriously I think it would be a good idea but I think the ad would need a price or at least a guide so that people would know if it would be within there reach! D3 x2 now gone

I think it sounds like a good idea too.
I guess the only slight danger might be people putting their cars on there without the real intention of selling unless the post received some interest, so it may mess the potential buyer around.Andy

The site selling rules state that items "must be readily available for sale" ...and there is good reason for this as "maybe" "might be" or "possibly" does not give potential buyers any confidence and to be an effective selling medium the forum needs to offer an amount of confidence.
I understand what you are trying to achieve but even if you say the item will "definitely" be available how are you going to get commitment from either party? ....IMO it is fraught with complications given how so much can change in the timescale indicated. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I think it is a great idea, if everyone was fair minded.
At the merest hint of my D3 being sold I must have had nearly a dozen unsolicited offers. When it came to the week to do the deal the final prospective buyer delayed, delayed again and then again. In the end my D3 was PX'd against my D4, so I was down on 'virtual' money but still had the original PX price in my back pocket if it all went south. It was also a bit harsh on the others who wanted the car but lost the opportunity.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

You don't get any commitment from either party that's not the idea, that's what the for sale section is for. Nothing can be sold from the area I suggest, to sell it would have to be posted in the appropriate for sale section. This is more to let people know that it's potentially coming up for sale.
