Mines quite happy pulling a 2.5tonne Ifor trailer, with a couple of tonnes in it.
My first manual could be a bit juddery on hill starts unless I used low box. OK it was a bit slower due to the weight.
Overall though very smooth and comforatble towing virtually anything, so long as the trailers brakes are regularly serviced & well adjusted.
Also nice if you have dealer fit tow pack as you can lift and lower the suspension with it hitched up and electrics plugged in, which can help loading/unloading and site access.

I tow my 1800 kgs caravan and am very impressed but I wonder if Jenko, Luke and MVS tow with autos and have been chipped? If with autos are you suffering from a "thump" when taking up from stationary or having slowed down to a crawl in traffic?
Performance and mpg are much better than with TD5 .

Have only recently (last Sat) picked up the new auto, and have only towed my little trailer, which may aswell not be there. Can't see or feel it. will post an oppinion on the man/auto towing differences when I've had some serious weight on the back.
No neither are / were chipped.

No mate - a manual and not chipped - I find that I have enough power/torque for what I need anyway - which I feel is far more superior to the td5 which I towed the same caravan with!!! - Even though its a manual I did originally order an auto - until the dealer cocked up - which gave me the power to get another 4.9 k knocked off!! But I am made up with the 6 speed manual!!

Question is, is the thump caused when your caravans braking/drawbar slack is taken up, or in the cars transmission. Would at least be worth checking the van and perhaps having it serviced.

I reckon you are right mvs - i have experienced this in "sudden" stop / start on occassions - no harm in checking it out though!!!

Thanks for replies.. MVS the thump is evident without the 'van although I did have the van serviced (part of warranty requirements) on its birthday. It seems to make no difference whether there is only me in the car or 4 or 5 people. Same noise, same circumstances.
