‘Wooshing’ Noise from Fuel Filler Cap? |
|
I keep hearing a wooshing noise from my fuel filler cap. I get the feeling it’s not sealing properly.
Upon close inspection, it does seem that the plastic / rubber ring has moved half off the cap; I’ll try to get a picture later on.
Common problem? Easy fix?

I think so...
It’s under Land Rover warranty; but hope it’s a quick fix.

I had a similar issue on my Freelander 2. When I went to fill up, id remove the cap to a 'whooshing' noise, I did some research on Freel2.net and found there was a modified version, I believe they had a different colour cap on the inside to show the old and the modified.
I'm not sure if this is a similar issue, but I haven't heard of it on the D4.. but then I haven't looked Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

Mine does it frequently but not always when I take the cap off to fill it. I thought it was normal. It has never bothered me.

Wit the Freelander, it did cause fuel/ engine issues.
this is the post.

Quote:We have been having various problems with our 2011 FL2, hesitation, sometimes won't start, "reduced engine performance mode" etc and despite being to the dealer several times they can't fix it or find the problem. Claim is that there are a number of 11 and 12 reg FL2s with the fault and LR don't know how to fix it. One theory was fuel starvation caused by a blocked fuel filter so that was changed recently. However, I went to put some diesel in the car today and had trouble removing the fuel filler, when it did come off there was a huge inrush of air. Is this normal? Is something blocked? So I am now wondering whether the problems could be caused by some difficulty in sucking the fuel out of the tank due to a partial vacuum. Any suggestions?
Incidentally the LR dealer told me that if a message comes up on the display then a fault code is logged, however if after the engine is restarted the fault has gone away then the code is deleted. Coming from an IT background this sounds ridiculous. Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

Come to think of it, my green D4 often had an airlock type effect on the fuel filler cap. I replaced the cap as the retaining leash had snapped, and I never noticed it doing it again thereafter.
The new cap was £18 IIRC from the main dealer and not covered under warranty. Gordon
