Hi Guys,
not got my disco 3. Just had it health checked by Gibson Autos in Cumnock. Got ah hefty job list totalling £4500 so will have to put the green laneing off for now until i get everything fixed. Any advice, help or cost savings would be much appreciated. Id love to give Gibsons the go ahead to fix everything in one go but lack of finances prevents this. Welcome to the world of Landrover.
My Job List to keep me busy for the next few months.

Some big stuff in there and some run of the mill stuff.
"Front Fogs. Cable worn. needs replaced
Rear wiper blade split
Engine Oil Low. needs topped up."
3 Things easy DIY, or ignore, i.e front fogs can easily be ignored for now and investigated at your leisure.
"front wishbone and rear bushes play and geometry is out
Front arm bushes worn
NSR TOP SUSPENSION ARM FRONT BUSH HAS SLIGHT PLAY BUT DOES NEED REPLACED "
New arms complete with bushes and a full 4 wheel alignment.
Parts available from, https://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/steering--suspension-12-c.asp
ARB bushes, track rod ends again DIY stuff if inclined as are things like brake pads. You know you need tyres anyway. Priority would probably be the wires under the drivers seat.
Presumably you knew it was needing work before you went to the other end of the country to buy it.
So hopefully the gamble has been worth it.

Don't know your mechanical ability but....
Front Wheel Bearings are fairly strightforward and could be done easy DIY at same time you do front brakes.
Bodsy's brake bible will help you with how-to
Set of tyres - try get geometry sorted before new tyres..
To keep you going, noticed these for sale in Fife: https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic164915.html
Money to be saved,..

Hi Dave T,
I think i got a good deal. 7000. gibsons say its a pretty sound car its just at the age where it needs all the wear and tear stuff done. Last owner didn't know what he had. just kept putting it in to his local country garage for oil and filter changes. Kind of new what to expect when he said that it has needed nothing done since he had it. He was oblivious about how to keep a disco in good condition.
I just tell myself i have saved it and i will make it as good as new. I contacted him to let him know what state it was in but he lives in a different world. I could tell on the test drive a few things that were wrong. What really surprised me was that he yet his wife who is due there 2nd baby soon and there 2 year old drive about in oblivious to their safety.
I am kind of stunned at the irresponsibility some people have.
If you can't afford to keep a disco in good condition then you shouldn't buy one.
God i am going on and on here. going to shut up.
I know i have got a goos sound disco so i am happy. I own it and it will be better than new when i am finished. My mechanic friend is willing to help me and let me use his garage and ramp.
Hope to see you all in the hills or green lining soon.

As an owner of an 05 HSE.
I have to question some of the stuff quoted.
How do you wear out fog light cables? I think mine have been used less than 10 times in 5 years. Forgot about them, never needed unless you are one of those knobs that drive around in the day with the fogs on.
Airbag light, from experience, reset light and it stopped. Loose connector was to blame. Again, how do you wear out wiring that lives under a seat?
You need a torque converter, judders are the first sign of it dying. Been there, got the bill.
Wiper? Do yourself. It’s easy. Oil? 5w30 can. Top up. Check dipstick.
Tyres? Did you not check that before buying it? Quite an oversight and an easy 6 points if police catch you.
Propshaft? Replacement time.
Suspension should be done in 1 hit. Then get it aligned properly.
I’ve heard of Gibson’s, I met the owner at a breakfast car meet a couple of years ago. He tried to suggest I didn’t go ahead with changing my tires air suspension compressor, but to bin the system and fit coils with a 2” lift. I don’t think he liked my response of laughing loudly then telling him to f**k off with that idea.
