Bad day!

Am gutted!

Found what I thought was my perfect D3 around 5 months ago, I now find myself watching it go off to the local independent Landrover specialist with a suspected cam belt failure, presuming a new engine will be needed.

Was driving it last week (Typically this all happened, before the snow arrived!!) and it suddenly just died, the dash lit up like a christmas tree, but no big engine noises or anything, then wouldn't start. My village mechanic had a quick look and says he thinks it's the cam belt, he has said that when the engine is turned over the cams under the oil cap are not moving.

Do all cam belt failures automatically mean new engine?

Now just waiting for the confirmation from the garage, but they are so busy, it might not be for a week or so! Will be keeping my fingers crossed it's not the worst case..

Cheers

Hayden

Does not automatically mean a new engine, BUT add in labour changes to strip down and either scrap/repair the old lump and very quickly you can be into serious money.

If you have an after market warranty, check and see if you have a claim.

Have a look here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/kent4x4breakers...amp;_from=

Will check them out, thanks.

Just my luck that the warranty I had on it ran out on the 15th Feb!!

Once I get confirmation, the next thing to decide is, how much is too much to pay for repairs, rather than scrapping! Tough decision!

Cheers

...And so my worst fear has been confirmed.

Garage have said a new engine would be required (Been quoted 12k to do the work!), which means the car will be uneconomical to fix, meaning I will have to scrap it.

And so my D3 ownership has come to an end. Am absolutely gutted, as it was my dream car. Maybe one day I will get another, but certainly not now (The wife won't let me).

While it is a shame to happen, you're another victim of the 07 age engine failures.

You,however, don't have to scrap it.

You can get a replacement engine sorted for much less than 12 grand, You could be half that easily with a decent indy shop.

I wouldn't give up on it just yet.

£12k, ridiculous. With a new engine from LR it’ll be more like £6-7k at a good LR specialist.

I’d find yourself a decent specialist, some have got away with way less than a new engine when the oil pump casing snaps.

My take on it is that the garage is no landrover specialist by any stretch of the imagination so is clutching at straws or could not be arsed to do the job so just quoted a ridicolous amount to get out from doing it.

It certainly feels like they are pricing the job out so that I'll say no. It would be a real shame to get rid of it, these disco's have a real knack of getting under your skin!!

Anyone got any recommendations of where I could start making inquiries? You have all got me thinking!

Thanks

Hyaden
