Having a Silver D3 I do appreciate the benefits it has over darker colours
Why is silver better-suited for offroad?
I've always had black cars, but my hand has been forced into buying a zermatt silver D4 because it was about the only stock vehicle with surround cameras and ebony leather that my LR dealer could get a hold of.
It never bothered me that black cars showed up dirt, especially with the A5 I traded-in for the D4: after I gave the A5 its wash every couple of months or so, it was as if I had a new car afterwards.
I'm kind of coming round to the idea of a silver car now, hoping that it might "soften" the look of the vehicle. Certainly, the black Freelander 2 with privacy glass I used to have could look a bit ominous/pimp mobile/drug dealer, and the new D4 also has privacy glass.

its no so much the dirt showing up .. its the scratches. the Silver hides a lot of the scratches that stand out in other colours Duncan

Have you seen a D4 in Nara Bronze yet - it really works well.
Having said that - our Ipanema Sand also works well and we are very pleased we got that (dealer stock - no choices at the time). It has many of the benefits of silver but a bit "different".
Bali Blue is one of those colours that might be reasonably popular now but over time I suspect this will become a harder colour to sell on. Personally I would avoid it as it is too big a risk. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Bali
blue was my colour of choice when we went to order. however after looking at one in the show room I did not think it suited the D4, on top of that they could not get one with the spec I wanted in the time scale I was looking for, I also liked the sand colour but again i could not get one in the right spec. Opted for Stornoway and am very pleased with it. Will post pictures when i get a day off and can take them in day light.
At the end of the day the choice is yours and it is also down to you as to how long you want to wait for it to be delivered. Either way enjoy it I am MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

DiscoDunc: thanks, I hadn't thought of the silver not showing up scratches.
Smarticus: I almost went for Nara Bronze, really liked the light interior with the wood, but chickened out thinking about trying to keep the interior mark-free.

I think Bali Blue is all right but after several, blue and black cars I branched out and went for Nara Bronze D4, primarily as it was in the dealers and ready to go. I wouldn't discount the less well known colours especially the Ipanema sand. They had a RRS at the dealers in that colour and it looked very nice. Didn't like the colour at all looking at the brochure initially but seeing it in the flesh it looked very smart and a little different.

I'm not going to stoop to responding to the other qwips about our coiler Anyway she performed admirably in Tunisia, as for..
DiscoDunc wrote:I like the Blue - but i reckon it will show all the bramble rash in its fully beauty
Agreed, but as MrsH is keeping the D3 I'll have that for the more risky adventures where bramble-rash is likely to be a real issue, and then in 4-5 years when the D3's turn comes to be replaced, I won't worry too much.
Bottom line is I'm still undecided, I like Bali and Silver equally but this'll be the 3rd Silver car in a row - probably end up tossing a coin for the colour on the day - and that won't be the first time
Thanks everyone for your feed back I'll keep you posted on what I choose in the end LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

I still think Stornoway (or whatever they call it on the D4...) suits it very well. But silver is more forgiving (why did I let myself be talked into getting black...? ) The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Mr H, what seals it, is that there are soooooooooooooo many people that could be called the Silver Baron, but the Blue Baron!, now that has a certain ring to it.
The Blue is a great multi-tone colour, different in sun and shade & is a real serious contendor for when I change my car (if I can tear myself away from Black.......)
Go for Blue, especially if you're keeping the old one anyway Bodsys Brake Bible

Of course it's personal taste....
Yeovil's demo at the moment is Bali Blue. Or perhaps it should be Bali Purple??? A bit of a marmite colour - you either love it or hate it!
It reminded me of those garish Disco I colours - the bright greens and purples - from yesteryear.
Anyway, all I would add is make sure you buy it with a guaranteed residual!!
Just my thoughts. Good thing we don't all think the same and like the same eh! V8NOT - because it's a diesel of course!

Off to Yeovil next Saturday to see the man about a D4 and look at the Bali Blue in the flesh, am now fairly convinced the D4 is going to be Bali Blue and Ebony interior. LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
