Baptism of fire: front sunroof replacement |
|
Hi
Having only just got my Disco 3 on Friday, this afternoon I went outside to discover that the front (openable) sunroof glass is crazed. I do not know what has caused this, but assume some sort of impact by a flying object. The vehicle was parked in my drive at the time.
So, deep breath, I need to change the sunroof. I can see used assemblies available on eBay, etc. But how should it be changed? Can the glass be replaced in-situ, or must the headliner be removed and the whole assembly swapped?
Thanks! Grey 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

I feel embarrassed by the timing of it, even though there were no signs of anything amiss beforehand.
Sorry to learn of it and hope it's not too tricky to fix!
If anything needs programming with an IID let me know - mine still has it registered for it. Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

May be worth checking if it is covered by your windscreen cover as part of your insurance.

Glad it was in your drive. Had one explode on a motorway once. Good job there was nobody sitting in the back at the time!

Hi Suzzling,
Bad luck on the sun roof, good news, is it looks a simple job to replace the glass only
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/d3-d4-sunro...e+sun+roof
Full units look around £150 so you may be able to source glass only a lot cheaper 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

I already have a 110; Land Rover products are always just a bit of an adventure... I didn't mention that I also got the squeal of death from the electronic parking brake on Saturday, so I've been reading up about all the options for repairing those, too... The chocolates helped the mood a little today, however, thanks - tell your son they're wonderful!

Thanks. Did you by any chance re-programme the steering wheel buttons? The "mode" button cycles between radio presets rather than between modes, which seems a little odd!
On the plus side, we (well, my 14 year old car cleaner) got the HDC button un-stuck Grey 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Thanks. Unfortunately there's an excess on my insurance for glass claims that isn't far off the price of a salvaged sunroof. Grey 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Thank you. I hadn't found that thread, but I had found the service manual (via the wiki here). Oddly, however, I also found threads where people had nonetheless dropped the headlining - not sure why! Grey 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

The only thing I've changed on setup during my ownership was the front parking sensors.
The wheel was changed to the smooth leather version by the previous owner and I think at the same time he did a CCF update that added the 'clock on dash' option and possibly a few other things.
I can't say I ever used the mode button...pretty much only ever used the volume up/down and 'end call' so it's possible it's been like that for many years now.
Meant to say that the CCF that added 'clock on dash' also added means when the lights are on the red auxiliary heating lamp indicates it, as per https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/warning-lig...85397.html
I stopped the car when driving back from buying it thinking that it was something like the auto gearbox overheating but a quick phone call to the seller sorted that it wasn't a problem.
If a different CCF is needed to sort out the button I'm happy to send down the IID.
Updating the CCF does need a power supply connected to the car so the voltage doesn't drop too low during the re-flashing routine though. Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

There is a later firmware update available through IID that fixes this

Hi there
Thanks for that. My insurance, it turns out, in theory covers this. But they've been giving me the runaround since last week about how/when they could actually get it resolved. Very frustrating. So I'm back to looking at used parts, so I'll give this guy a call - thanks! Grey 05 TDV6 HSE Auto
