My understanding is that the box is just a storage and uploading OBD interface. Once the correct linking software is uploaded to suit the vehicle the ecu map can be downloaded onto the box, transferred onto your pc and emailed to a tuning company such as alientech. I cannot confirm if pete bell BAS would offer this service, so maybe you should ask him first. Once the map is tuned it is emailed back and you uload it through the obd port from the powergate box, you can switch between mormal and tuned as you see fit. These boxes can only be used on one car at a time and the car must be reset to standard before the box can be used for another car.
I believe all the boxes are principally the same, the magic lies in the maps, which i understand from the many comments on the forum the BAS maps are brilliant and very highly rated
I have used the same box many times on many diesel cars with tuned maps from alientech. Each new map is £80.
Alientech are on ebay, they offer a powergate box, a power map and economy map for £279, if you haggle you may get it cheaper.
If i was starting again, and had the dosh, i would go for the BAS box and file because of the support and the fact there has been so many recommendations of praise....................................................................................................
If my wife ever sells my stuff for what she thinks I paid for them, you lot are gonna get some bargains!

Just seen this post and thjought i best answer.
We cant support non branded BAS style boxes as they all have different firmware inside. the BAS box is dedicated to us and so is the firmware so our tuning can only work with our boxes.
Though the boxes seen arround look the same, it only the main pcb that is the same

I am appealing to the most knowledgeable of people (as everyone is that's on this site) for a little advice on a small matter i have in mind.
Have been thinking of getting one of Pete's (BAS) boxes as i like seeing everyones praise for them, and i do not want to get a useless cheap box, but i do have a question, want to use it on MY08 D3, but in a few years time will i be able to use it on a D4(more than likely new), not the same map as for the D3, a new map for the D4 would be required as i understand, but would like to know if the box would still be okay to use.

Thanks in advance for any info.
The BAS remap interface does not support the D4, the D4 ecu has a different setup totally so cant be added to the existing D3 BAS module.

Many thanks for the reply Pete.
I take it from the other posts below mine if i was to find a second hand one i would be able to use it on my D3 after being sent to you for new software, after the old owners info being taken out.
