I am more than happy with my BAS unit and the supplied remap....
Just reading this thread I noticed the warning below which I wasn't aware of:
Quote:IMPORTANT NOTE this is ONLY possible if you return the car back to standard before a dealer visit. If the dealer reflash your car with a update and you have not returned the car to standard the BAS interface tool can not be erased and reused.
If my D3 is recovered to a LR dealer and I haven't got the BAS unit with me and the above happens, where do we stand in getting the BAS fixed?? ------------------------------

Yes i have some left for 499 , some more hipping cost may apply to non UK.
The idea behind the BAS unit is that you keep it in the car incase you need to return the car to standard at a moments notice.

Unnecessary quote removed
In a perfect world I agree, but the wife might be driving on her own when it breaks down. So are we saying I would have to pay £499 for another unit and remap?? ------------------------------

HI
You would nothave to pay the full price again , but i think it would be in the regen of 250 for a exchange box, the box is locked to the car in its current state and if the dealer reflashes it then its now locked to a car that it belives does not exist now.
For the simplicity of its use it may be an idea to show all the drivers of the car how to return the car to standard if needed.

I'm glad that I re-read this thread because I wasn't aware of the need to re-flash to standard every time the car went near a dealer. I understood that the dealer might invalidate my warranty if they discovered the tuning and that was the reason for retuning to standard.
I think this should be clearly stated on the instructions provided with the unit.
Just for my own curiosity why can the unit not be reset using the software provided? What is the difference between a dealer overwriting a tuned map and a standard map?
I want to state for the record in case anyone thinks I am knocking Bellautos, that I am extremely pleased with my unit and the service Pete has provided.
I did sweat a bit on the way home last night until I plugged the BAS unit into my D3 and checked all was OK as my D3 had been to the stealer with the tuned map still in her…. ------------------------------

The unit cannot be reset without restoring the original map on the target vehicle because otherwise you would be able to buy one unit and then use it to re-flash hundreds of cars, only paying for the re-map cost.
I've also got the Alientech device from a different supplier (sorry Pete ) and although it's quite a simple thing it works very well.
To be honest it's not as easy for a dealer to detect the remap as you may think.
Obviously if they test drive it, they'll spot it immediately. Again - some dealers will be sympathetic and/or not care (especially if it's a warranty claim) whilst some will use it as an excuse if they have to stump up the repair costs themselves.
Otherwise, unless they do live data checks on the injectors, turbo etc it's going to be pretty hard for them to know. Taking into account that this sort of diagnostic check eats man-hours and time (not to mention tying up an IDS to one vehicle) then it's clear that in the majority of cases, they will not investigate deep enough to be able to spot it from the workshop point-of-view. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Thanks PaulP for hilighting some of he points of the target car etc etc.
To add
The tool is locked to a "target engine ecu" when the tool knows your car is in tuned state, its locked to the target ecus data content.
If the target ecus data content is changed then the target no longer exists, so the tool now cant login and be used.
IF the dealer does overwrite your car and for some reason and you didnt return the car to standard there is a possibility i can unlock the tool again, BUT i would need the car and the tool in my workshop to do this.
The whole idea of the tool is to give you control over the remap, EG if you have a normal remap and the dealer flashes it you have lost it, this would mean a trip back to the tuner to get it reflashed back on again.
This tool give you the capeability to have tuning from the comfort of your own home and to be able to take the tuning off when needed.
If you take the tuning off and there is a software update done then we make a new tuned file and away you go again.
A normal remap does not offer this as you know.
