Could the battery be the cause of my problems?

So i've not had my Discovery 3 long and I'm trying to solve the problems with the Special programs unavailable on the terrain response and the Sun roof not working (I've tried the reset holding the button for 20 secs). I understand I need to get it on the diagnostics tool but one of the first things I checked was the fuse box and noticed that the battery terminals were loose (I don't think its the right type of battery either) I tried tightining them and sheared the stud, they are both still loose. I now understand it's supposed to be a tapered post mine are not.

What is the low threshold on the voltage when it will start kicking out faults and causing problems so when I get hold of a fluke I can check what voltage it's putting out.

I think i'm going to get a new battery anyway cause I don't think its the right type and I've had to order a battery clamp and bolts as it's just bloody sat in there at the moment.

Cheers,

Daz

My battery is on the way out, and sits on a charge of about 11.5-11.9 volts when the car is left for any length of time.

When I start the car first thing in the morning I’ll gets HDC Fault, special programmes not available, and the radio powers off. If it’s really low then I loose the clock on dash as well.

But it all recovers within a few second of the car starting and alternator picks the voltage up.

What battery do you have in there? Got some numbers or a picture?

Seems to be the battery Banne recommend for the D3.

Manual says should be 90 or 110 Ah, and this is 92.

I’ve wondered/asked before whether the reason for the two recommended values is due to the difference on power requirements between low line and high line spec vehicles but never really gotten an answer to that question so still don’t know if it’s important or not.

Try Tayna batteries as they have discount code on here, I'm sure Del will be along with it soon Thumbs Up I have bought a few from there at a decent price with the discount..

Well at least it’s the right battery then, I just need to secure the connectors as they are really slack even tho I’ve graunched down on the bolts and sheared one.

As a temp measure, leave the battery on charge over night, if you don’t have a “smart” or “pulse” charger disconnect the battery to charge, when fitting the terminals put a short piece of bare copper wire over the battery terminal to make a sleeve and gently tap the connector on, if the voltage drops below 9volts when cranking you will have faults.
To clear faults disconnect the battery and short the two car leads together for 5 secs, I repeat, the car battery leads and they must both be disconnected from the battery.
Rarely do cheapo batteries like Banner give the stated output, D3s are power hungery and need the best battery available or you will have problems, Exide Premium 019 is the current economic Best Buy.

Cheers M3DPO and thanks for the advice! I will give the reset a go and do the copper wire trick.

I managed to sort out the Sunroof fault at least, I must have not been holding down the button long enough when doing the recalibration. Deffo felt like an age holding it down but it kicked in and I now have a fully functioning sunroof! 👍 thanks to this forum!
