Battery charger

Would this be suitable for the D3 ? and for my Leisure battery?

According to the advert it is only for 6V/12V lead acid batteries.

The D3 uses a 12V Lead Calcium battery so I don't think this is really the best thing to use. The CTek ones seem to be a good choice (I've got a XS25000 and really like it).

Have a look for something similar to this one (CTEK XS 3600) - a bit more expensive, but get good reviews on here:

This is the cheapest one I can find in the UK with the best shipping cost.

Thumbs Up

CTEK XS-3600 Thumbs Up

Pics in my gallery together with manual if you want to take a look...

Revived two previously dead batteries to perfection (on other cars). I have use it to keep the YT topped up but never the main battery as I've read charging in situ has caused faults to register ? Confused

Biz Thumbs Up

I've used my XS 25000 to charge my main battery in-situ and it registered a DTC (over-voltage fault) on the transmission control module and one other (can't remember which).

The second time it didn't register anything, but even so, they are just recorded as historic faults and don't affect the D3 in any way.

Although the XS 3600 is not capable of supplying anywhere near the same current as the XS 25000, it guess it could still provide the same level of voltage so could probably cause faults to be recorded (even if it ultimately doesn't matter).

As a matter of course, I would recommend disconnecting the -ve battery terminal and isolating it before charging - this is what I did when charging both batteries before the holidays and no obviously no faults were recorded Thumbs Up

Cheers Paul Thumbs Up Good to know no side-effects other than historic codes than can be erased Wink

I guess disconnecting the -ve would reset everything (from seat memory to radio stations stored)? Had the YT disconnected from the main anyway (despite having the Traxide in between). I was glad to see however the main showed no signs of fatigue after 2 weeks of no use...

Not sure about memory seats, but it will definitely reset all of the stored radio presets etc Thumbs Up

In theory there should be no need to disconnect the auxilliary battery as it will be isolated anyway with the key out, but I disconnected it to prevent having any problems to the bits connected to the permanent 12V supply (CarPC, rear screens etc) Thumbs Up

I've never disconnected anything when the CTEK is attached...neither -ve leads, Traxide nor YT...

Never considered that was adviseable or required Confused Even over the previous winter when I had the CTEK attached almost daily.

So...have I Censored everything up then...?
