I've just been cleaning up in the shed...now there's a great way to spend a day, not. Anyhoo, came across this little orange box, that came in the glove box of the Landy when she came to me. Asked the dealer at the time, and he said something about LR puts them on but they do nothing.
It has a part No: YWB500140. It fits to the negative battery terminal (that what is marked on it, and has a 2 pin bosch style plug which feeds a coil pack and an electronic chip.
It appears to me to be a cover for the terminal, and has a dummy terminal to hold the HT earth lead during transport?
Any ideas??
Cheers

It's what you thought it was - a transit relay to prevent the battery dying during transport from the factory to point of sale.
They are fitted to all D3s and the dealer usually just disconnects them and throws them away during the pre-delivery inspection.
Have a look here:

Thanks for the reply Paul.
Happy I didn't throw it out. Now I know what and how, I can use it on my stored car rather than having it pluged into an onboard charger.

you'll also need IDS / Autologic to put the D3 into delivery mode for the transit relay to work...
