Battery Woes

Hi All,

Looks like it's that time of the year again with failing batteries Sad

I'd picked up a Disco 3 / 2006 Model year this February. So, I've owned it for a grand total of 8 Months.

In my general usage it's been performing quite decently apart from a couple of faults, as discos are known to have.
More on faults later, as i'm convinced that they're not the cause.

Before you read on further, a full disclosure : Battery fitted isn't the best brand out there , nor is it the correct spec from what i can gather.
(Banner Powerbull / 780CCA (EN) /95Ah). Full spec in PDF format in my gallery.

I have no clue when it was fitted, however upon disassembly and inspection of the plastic casing stamp, I can see that it was manufactured in June 2018. The battery fitted previous to that was from LR in June 2014. Which means LR battery lasted 4 years, this one might be on it's last legs a tad over 2 years, which coincidentally is the warranty that Banner offers !

Lately I've been noticing that it cranks up hesitantly.
So i've done the following :
Charged the battery up to 13.12V to check if SoC is an issue, given this is not our main car.
Still felt it was hesitant to crank up with a slight rumble, despite it being only 10°C

Drain test : This is where i need your opinions :
Opened the bonnet , locked car , let it sleep for close to 45 mins.
Read 12.8V at the start of test b/w +Ve & ground on engine.
Disconnected the -Ve cable from -Ve pole of battery.
Connected the DMM between -Ve Cable and -Ve Pole of batt.
Wasn't able to get a reading at all , neither in 10A mode nor in smaller modes upto µA
It did flicker a bit and show around 5mA before showing 0mA & 0µA again
My first thought was , is the Fuse on DMM busted.
But i now rather think i can rule that out, since a draw of more than 10A would mean that the battery would be drained flat by the next morning , and in my case i still have 12.55V after a week of parked condition
Is it possible that the quiescent drain is actually 0mA whilst asleep ?

Also , the car read 10.6V whilst being cranked over, is that good ?
As in, it was 12.09V at rest , read 10.6V on being cranked before alternator kicked in and pushed out 14V and above to recharge the battey.

Now to the faults : I've got P081C that bongs me every morning , but diasppears on subsequent starts. Shifting is as such A-ok.
And I've also got an EGR which is past it's prime , but i don't think either of these have anything to do with slow cranking issues. It throws out P404 : circuit Range / Performance & P405: Exhaust Gas recirculation Sensor A- Circuit Low , is that the right side?
