Belts done in 2017 but pump potentially not |
|
Morning
So I've agreed a deal on a 2007 XS 2.7 (but yet to collect with 91 k on the clocks belts done in 2017 at 78k but no mention of the oil pump been replaced at that time.
I've quoted £816 for new belts and pump by local specialist as a result and managed to get £320 off the purchase price of the car itself (wouldn't budge further)
I'm not sure if I should start using the disco till I can afford to get the pump done as its done 13k on what could be an inferior casting pump given its an 07 year model (registered march 2007).
If a failure was going to occur would it of already of happened or would could It go anytime after belts have been done?
Thanks in advance
Phil

You could take a photograph (not easy) of the pump and post it on here to see if it is the 'older' design?
Many on here can identify it for you. You might already be OK

Never had to do it but the cooling fan and the fan cowl will make it awkward (maybe impossible without removing said items).
I'm thinking an iPhone on a selfie stick may do it? Just before you drop it and then have that to retrieve "Track day running - Don't put your foot back on the accelerator until your absolutely sure you don't have to take it off again"

unfortunately you do have to strip the car down a bit to view the pump location but if your useful with the spanners it can be done in a hour or so , im in the same position pal , belt kits been down twice bit still on the original pump but got 183k on the clock

might look at warranties thanks for that,
garage itself appears to be small indy with hand written receipts so wouldn't hold out much hope on details

Motor easy have initially quoted £816.96 for the year (just a few pence more than the belts and plump ) but have dropped it to £656.37 with not a word from me but that price is only for 24 hours apparently and apparently covered everything even wear and tear and consequential damage but not consumables up to the value of the car with £50 excess

belts now down along with a nice new oil pump
total bill came to £1021 asI had the 105k service down at the same time and a new nsf calliper as it was well and truly stuck and causing a lot of steering wheel wobble at 60
now doing 90 miles a day and this morning ticked up to 28.9mpg on the dash
