Seen folk going up Goatfell in Arran in flip flops, shorts and vest t-shirt with co-op bag with crisps and juice therein (and usually neither bag nor packaging are with them when they return) The guy with the shop at the bottom of one route does try to dissuade them but gets nowhere with most. Have also seen folk inadequately shod come back down with blood streaming from facial injuries.
Mind you, I did encounter a mountain biker on his way back down over the rocky part of the climb...thought I was hallucinating.
On an Easter weekend’s geocaching trip to Dumyat we had all 4 seasons in one day. Folk were trying to roll eggs down a slope but it was so windy they were being blown back up. Rain, sleet and snow at one point and, as we were descending the hill a woman was on her way up in high heeled sling backs with her handbag over her arm, dressed as though she was off to a disco😩
How the mountain rescue teams manage to maintain composure when they have to rescue these idiots, I’ll never know.

Wow that brings back memories - I used to run a field trip/lab session up and down Dumyat when lecturing at Stirling uni as it was on the back door. Students learnt very quickly about lapse rates etc! Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Goatfell has to be one of my favourite mountains. Such great views from the top.

Gareth, Have you tried the walk up to Coire Fionn Lochan and the ridges above Thundergay on the west side? On a good clear day the views are outstanding .

A few years ago we walked up Cairngorm. Luckily near the summit there was a restaurant/cafe (This is the benefit over Ben nevis) where we stopped for a well earned sports drink ( couple of pints of cairngorm brewery IPA ), just as we were about to set off to walk down we were told to evacuate the mountain as there was a huge thunderstorm coming and we were given a free ride down on the (now out of use) funicular railway
