p.s. In the UK or Eire, the cheapest diesel is thebest for a D3; now, in la belle France, that is not the case............

bkehoe wrote:In Ireland, pretty much everyone has the same Diesel. It's an old rumour that Ireland gets the 'cheap/leftover' diesel among the trade.
My family are involved in oil transport for one of the fairly popular oil companies in Ireland and they could be getting diesel anywhere - wherever has it basically. All the companies tend to sell to the others when they have it, buy from the others when they don't, etc. E.g. our lorries could be going to Emo, Esso, Shell, Texaco, etc depots for oil/diesel/petrol/etc.
Statoil are possibly 'independent' as well as possibly Estuary Oil.
I dont think there is any such thing as premium diesel in Ireland.
I've got Diesel from Tesco New Ross and noticed no difference, same MPG, everything. I've always managed to avoid getting diesel in the North/UK so far, so can't comment on any differences between Irish/UK diesel in a D3.
Brendan.
who is the fairly popular oil company. Is it DCC.?? not sure of Oil distribution trading name in Ireland.

However, sometimes they pick the wrong trailer, sometimes they pick a plain white one (like an unmarked police car), and sometimes they deliver to more than one site with the same trailer.
There are usually six or seven individual compartments in a tanker (with capacities of 5k-7.5k litres each). It is feasible that they can 'split load' to deliver Shell fuel in half the tanker, and Tesco Fuel in the other half. This is more usual with rural sites which cannot accept a full load.
I have seen a Hoyer Tractor unit towing a Shell Trailer and delivering to an Esso garage However, the fuel being delivered should still be the correct formula according to the site of delivery.
don't think your entirely correct with that statement.

Feel free to pick the bit you think is incorrect as you have not been particularly specific
I should say that I have (in a previous life) spent five years owning and operating two fuel retailing businesses with 23 staff and a £9M turnover so I reckon I'm qualified to make that statement

No offence taken at all. I simply wonder which bit you think wasn't correct.
As for site names........ I did say it was a previous life and I'm happy to keep it that way

How long ago are we talking.
Ok Ok to be fair. I work for BP Oil Uk Limited in Retail no not a filling station till girl actually BP Oil Uk have done for 26 years thought maybe you were one of our sites but I see you quote Hoyer so assume your were maybe a Esso station.
Was at Grangemouth but now up at Inverness Oil terminal.

It's academic - I've never had anything to do with BP. Except for the fact that many of my tankers came from the BP site at Grangemouth and none of them had BP fuel in them
Supergirl wrote:not a filling station till girl
There's nothing wrong with girls who work in filling stations........
You still haven't said which bit of my statement you think was incorrect???

it shouldn't be done. You see it you have a specific product for one station say V-Power in 2 compartments and have Ultimate in the other three then technically you cross contanimate because your using the same delivery hose and unless you have standard unleaded in one compartment you can't flush the hose out.
Also the rural sites are no longer delivered to by the Major Oil companies i.e. shell esso or BP not nowadays they would be delivered to by either Gleaner Oils or Scottish Fuels Brogans etc etc and these companies would only deliver the product specific to the site ie. Gleaner would only do Shell etc etc although Scottish Fuels have bought Shell Direct so they do a few small shell sites down south.
