Hi From Royal Purple question answer
For this Land Rover Discovery 4 188 kw Sdv 188kw diesel engine we would recommend using our Royal Purple HPS 5W-30 (part #31530, quart bottle) once strict OEM warranty compliance is no longer a concern. If strict OEM warranty compliance is still a serious concern you would be best served using a 5W-30 diesel motor oil that list the ACEA C1 and Ford WSS-M2C934-B specification on the bottle. We do not offer a 5W-30 motor oil that carries the ACEA C1 or Ford WSS-M2C934-B specification.

That's a poor answer. The C1 stuff is designed not to clog your DPF ... in/out of warranty is irrelevant.

Even engines filled with the correct spec Castrol form new snap cranks so buy the best oil you can afford of the correct spec and change it more often than LR require.

Snapped cranks have nothing to do with the engine oil or frequency of changes 😉

It seem that C1 is today "obsolete", check here:

https://www.acea.auto/files/2021-ACEA-oil-...1-2022.pdf

Here is the 2016 ACEA file where C1 is still present:

https://www.acea.auto/files/ACEA_European_...update.pdf

My personal translation of these is that it's either C3 or C4 oil, as they have the higher
HTHS Viscosity: C1 2,9 mPa.s, C3 and C4 3,5 mPa.s

I'm not getting in the discussion 5W30 or 5W40, that's everybody's own decision, but this
now explain why it was so difficult to find C1 spec oil.

Hi Today I changed the engine oil but before oil draining I added this additive to clean the engine:
http://www.renox.com/auto/rnx-ultra/oil-system-cleaner.html

then I used Shell Helix 5/30 C1 AFL oil with antifriction addittive
http://www.renox.com/auto/rx/01_rx10.html

I have also added this product to the fuel tank
http://www.renox.com/auto/royalpurple/max-clean.html

The engine seems to run better and the car seems to have improved performance
