Bigger tires for offroad?

I have 255/55 19 tires, which are 30" in diameter. I am planning on getting some of the European 17' rims. The only size that has a good selection of off road tires is 265/70 17. This brings the diameter to 31.6 - 32.5 depending upon the tire. I am only going to use them off road, saving the 19s for the street. My first choice is the Super Swamper SSR.

My Land Rover dealer says the truck will be fine with the increased diameter - that the electronics will not be affected.

Any thoughts? Is this a mistake?

That sounds a bit odd. The electronics normally assumes a tyre OD value and thence converts revs/min to kph. Unless the Disco3 has some very novel road speed measuring device that does not rely on tyre diameter I would say that your LR dealer was talking through his exhaust pipe Razz

No doubt the increased OD will make the speedometer display an incorrect speed by about 5%, but everything else will work fine.

There is a speed calibration function in the nav system that is recommended to be used when fitting new tyres, it may cope with this change. Could it be comparing observed speed compared to GPS speed.
