Black engine oil

Bought my new 06 MY TDV6 SE two and a half months ago. It's now covered 2500 miles, I recently checked the oil, it was to the top mark but to my suprise it was black. Is this normal?

All other cars I've owned from new have had clean looking engine oil even to the end of each service interval. It's the first turbo diesel I've owned so the only thought I have is that the turbo is heating the oil and carbonising it. The car is driven only by my wife and she certainly doesn't thrash it. Can anyone confirm whether this is normal and what would be causing it.

To back up Andrew's soothing reassurance - look at the first paragraph here Wink
