Black smoke and loss of power |
|
Back from holiday to find that my TDV6 is lacking in power and when accelerlating medium/hard there's an aweful lot of black smoke out the back. It sounds like the turbo isn't firing up either
Could it be a loose pipe? [Hopefully]
There's no error messages on the dash.
Help

Really easy to get to. You can see the top of the o/s hose once the bonnet is open. The bottom of the hose is accessed behind the plastic inspection panel at the bottom front of o/s wheel arch. It's held in with four plastic studs. The hose normally splits at the top.
Had to tighten the hose clip on the n/s lower intercooler hose as it was blowing. Has anyone had this hose go as I've already replace the o/s one after it split
Changed oil and all filters, and smoke has cut down a fair amount. I'd check your air filter as mine was quite dirty and was maybe caused by all the volcanic dust that was floating around recently Faultmate MSV2 EXTREME

The hose is indeed split at the top
Gaffa tape and take for a spin before ordering a new hose.(making sure that's the only problem). This Game of Ghosts

TBH I think I would stump up a bit extra cash and get a silicone pipe from Pete @ BAS (around 80ish GBP compared to 40ish GBP for the LR one)....at least it shouldn't fail again in the future
I'm planning to replace mine within the next month or two for one of these to prevent this exact fault from happenning 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

OK, now getting Micky Mouse style squeak as I accelerate off and still black clouds follow me. Could it be sucking through the gaffa tape, (unlikely)??
Regardless, it needs changing. This Game of Ghosts

The gaffer/duck tape trick will work as a temporary fix for a very small hole/split, but no way would it be able to hold the pressure if it was a bigger split (> 2-3mm?) 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

I used self-amalgamating silicone tape which lasted quite well as the new hose was on back order. Faultmate MSV2 EXTREME
