So, I ran out of time and plastidip, but managed to get the wheels and front land rover badge done.

Excuse the poor quality photos, the light was fading and only had phone camera.

I'm liking the look though, so will keep going, when I get some more dip!

Like the grill and wheels. Those are the centre caps I'm considering. What diameter are the inner tabs on yours as there are two different sizes on the bay?

Thumbs Up

Is your rear bumper the split D4 type or did you spray the original D3 one?

I'm embarking on the colour code after buying a colour coded rear bumper from the latest site sponsor. Will need to do the front bumper and lower tail gate trim.

Plasti dipped cars look great... But are tricky to maintain in that you can't use a power wash etc ad it will rip it off a bit tlc needed in looking after it and keeping clean, I would suggest that if you do it you put a clear coat over it to protect it, either matt or satin. I know a company here that does all sorts of options and finishes depending on what you want and how long you want to keep it and last etc. Can I ask how the land rover emblem wad done in plasti dip? Do you just carefully cut the surlpess overspray away?

Yeah, I may look at a clear coat after I next change my tyres. I will need to change them soonish (probably after Christmas) so probably not worth it yet, as from what I understand the dip will get trashed when they're changed. Just had a few cans lying around so wanted to try the look and see if I liked it (which I do!)

As for Land Rover emblem simples! Mask an area around the emblem, leaving a border (I kept about 1-2cm all way round). Then when you take the tape away you will be left with a nice edge you can lift and pull away. The dip will break where it meets the emblem as long as you pull it gently and in the right direction. Any over-spray that missed the mask area will buff off with a microfibre cloth.

The below video shows you the process but it really is very simple. To be honest the wheels were much harder as I took them off to spray so tying not to damage the dip while fitting them back in place was fun. Also then sprayed the wheel nuts once in place, so not ruining the finish on the wheels was awkward (it's definitely not perfect!)

Anyway video here;

Thumbs Up what about the little bits in between the a and o s etc? Must be tricky getting these fiddly bits out?

What is the concensus...

Wheels off or wheels on to Plastidip?

I can see the labour/time saving of wheels on but I would imagine you could get a better job done with the wheels off.

Cheers,

Darren

I used a tooth pick/cocktail stick and it was fairly easy but you do need to make sure you don't leave it too long before peeling them out as when it dries too much it doesn't break as cleanly around the edges, at the same time too short and it wont peel properly. I left mine about 10-15 mins and it seemed to be fine.

I took the wheels off and sprayed which meant I could get a some dip on the inside egde of the rim, but then finished them off when they were back in place, which allowed me to spray the wheel nuts too (I realise the nuts will get trashed when I next take them off but might get some covers or black anodised ones when I do that).

So I continued the stealth theme this weekend with the grill, side vents and rear lettering all having the matt black treatment.
Not impressed with wheels though. Despite looking great when first done all four started splitting and peeling very badly so had to rip off all the dip on all four.
I'm not sure why this happens as spent a long time cleaning and drying wheels before hand and feel they had quite a few good and even layers of dip on them.

Not sure I want to expend any more time and money on plastidipping the wheels so will probably go for a powder coat when I change tyres early next year.

Anyway pics of new black bits below. Not great as its raining but you get the idea.
