I need advice please for a wheel problem. I have pitting on my alloys and its is unsightly. I am within warranty and the dealer told me its a reaction between brake dust and the lacquer. He also said it is not uncommon, he couldn't help me and to contact LR Customer care. LR don't want to know and suggest that its either because I don't clean my car enough or use a none approved cleaner.
I clean it every Sunday like the rest of you - I don't spend £30,000 on a car and not clean it. Always used Simonez products to clean. I've now done 30,000 miles and it started around 20,000. Have any of you had this issue before? What should I do?
Cheers Kev

kev i had the mrs td4 freelander from LR cov brand new....6months later....... same thing....apparently she .....i mean me...wasnt cleaning the wheels on a regular basis......they subsequently turned a nice shade of yellow/gold with pittied brake dust.....have subsequently found a great product called sonax extreme wheel cleaner and it seems to have 90% brought the wheels back to life

I have the same problem as was going to mention it to my dealer,
it all happen/got worse after they changed the brake pads, I wash my wheels with a non acid cleaner P21s red gel and seal them with poorboys wheel seal when ever they seam to need more than a normal clean.
I have try clay bar, auto glym acid & non acid cleaner etc etc to no avail
What is the 'approved' cleaner

I'd be surprised if I clean mine once a month in the winter. The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us yet.

Mine get cleaned at the service but they are another set via fleabay or well knackered 19"ers with muds on. Mind you original wheels are probably pitting away in the shed after they were taken off & put away in as is state!

Neither do I.
Just wash 'em over when I take 'em off when tyres worn out!

I say "I clean mine" but what I meant to say is, I pay Sgt Bills in Gillingham to clean it The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us yet.

I don't clean mine either - my 18" Type 1's sat in the garage for 20 months covered in sh*t and brake dust and cleaned up sufficiently when they went back on - and they were pitted and marked.
I seem to recall that Type 1's were the worst for collecting dust - am hoping my New Type 2's are a little betterSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
Surely the wheels should be fit for purpose. It is certain that the wheels will come into contact with brake dust and so should be designed/made to withstand this, even if never washed....

This made me feel VERY guilty....
I clean it twice a year. Once after winter and once before giving the car to the stealer.
