Blowing Bulbs Constantly & Now The Cabin Heater Blower. |
|
Firstly, apologies if this thread is similar to others, but please read on. My 2006 Disco 3 has decided to start blowing bulbs in rapid succession, not the same one every time, but a variety just to keep me guessing. Headlight, brake light bulb, rear indicator yesterday, and yet another newly replaced headlight bulb today. Also, the front cabin heater blower has decided to pack up. Sometimes it will work for a few seconds when first starting the car, but then stops. Any ideas on sorting this (apart from torching the bloody thing) would be much appreciated.

Obvious think to consider is over voltage caused by alternator.
Measure voltage when engine running.
Maximum it should be is 15v
If you get 16v or more, that is the issue.

Also bear in mind that at this time of year, older tungsten lamps will be more likely to fail due to the raised system voltage, which is temperature dependent. If the headlamp that has prematurely failed is a 'forecourt special' then that may well be the cause as they are generally made to a price, not a quality. As above, check your system voltage first.
I doubt the heater fan is related, for the controller to shut down due to over voltage, you'd have other controllers doing the same - the ECM, would also put the charge warning lamp on in the event of loss of control of the alternator.
