Bluetooth and Factory PTI again(not boring honest!!) |
|
Hi Guys, sorry for not posting for some time, work pressures and all that.
I have some info and questions again re the B/T and Factory PTI.
First a quick back-grounder for those that don't know me.
I took delivery of my new D3 TDV6 HSE back in November of 2004.
As it was one of the very first UK cars, I was told I could not have the factory fit PTI, and would need to wait until the B/T retrofit came along.
By the time I was really fed up with using headsets, I finally ordered the two options that make up the b/t retro fit kit.
I should say at this point that my dealer told me when I ordered it that it would include a charging cradle, to the effect that they even had me buy a new mobile, a Nokia 6230, as it was one of the few that were supported.
The install was carried out which took over two days, when I did collect the vehicle there was no cradle, my dealership told them that LR had misinformed them.
I did get the new buttons on the steering wheel for answer, end and voice activation.
However the whole setup was very bad, with poor call quality, no support for call waiting(it just hangs up the first call), the voice instructions from sat nav, speak over the top of the voice from the telephone call, if you have the TP traffic info on the radio this just cuts off the call when interrupting etc.
But the real problem is that because there is no external aerial, and you end up putting the phone in the drinks tray, calls are dropped almost every call as the strength fails on the phone signal, as the d3 seems to be a great faraday cage.
Now I should also say at this point I had spoken to LR technical about this, who have told me that there will be a new version of s/w for the b/t option I have that will fix some problems, but my local LR dealer knows nothing of this.
I also asked them about actually retro fitting the proper pti kit, but they said it was not possible as my vehicle had a glass roof.
I then forgot about it for a while, but recently had so many calls drop due to bad signal strength that I decided to look into it further.
So before I continue on this track I have some questions.
Can I have a response from the d3 owners on this web site who have:
A: a retro fit bluetooth kit
B: the original factory PTI.
Feedback on your thoughts on both is required.
Then if you guys are all interested, I shall begin with the rest of this book at bedtime story.
Hoping for lots of response!!
Cheers

Hi Martin,
Will do, I have been lurking but the real reason is just too much travel.
My company was recently aquired by Computer Associates, and I went from being employee No 4 at Concord( my old co) to Emp No 17982 ish at CA.
Then yesterday CA announced 850 redundancies, so we are all in the holding pattern of doom!!

Nigel,
I have the factory-fit PTI in my S, but until today, I hadn't got a compatible BT 'phone. The SE T630 appears to work, despite it not being on the LR list. I'm off to France shortly, so will report on its functionality later, but appears to do as advertised. Not had any experience of call-dropping, but then it's early days. Dr Lex,
Thanks, to be really annoyed I urge you to leave call waiting on, make a call then get some one else to make an inbound call to your number.
You wait, you will be *issed pretty quick, I almost killed my guys, when I was on the call to my big US boss, and got him cut off 10 time in two mins!!
Have fun on your trip,

Hi Nigel I have the factory fitted kit and can say I have never had a problem with it apart from the lack of a cradle to suit my phone. It works well on BT I am probably not far from you if you want to have a look at it.

Nigel
I have the factory PTI, a Nokia 6230 and a CR-3 cradle.
Whilst the headunit means that some of the Range Rover functionality is lost, it is without any doubt the neatest and best quality handsfree kit I have ever had.
As far as I was aware, you got the roof antenna even with the dealer retro-fit. It works with the alpine roof too - though I think that there is a specific additional fitting item to accomodate it.

I have the reto BT kit fitted to our November registered D3 HSE (which we purchased at about 6 months old), and have found that it is not bad. Yes it has limits but overall it does the job, my main reason for having it installed rather than a straight Nokia kit was that the LR kit will mute the radio and at the time no one else could offer that facility.
We had ours installed about the end of May, but when I called my dealer at the being of May and quoted the part numbers from the accessories book I was told these were now wrong and that part numbers had been updated as a new kit was just coming out (I will try and find the new part numbers) may have a bearing on your problems.
Also to make the use of the phone easy and charge the phone at the same time if we want, I have installed a Nokia 6310/i phone holder in the car using a Dash Mount no holes bracket (can take some pictures if you want, but that would be tomorrow evening now)
Hope this is of some use.

As you may have read I have the BT system, but am not happy with it.
To this end I have manged to get the cradle and accesories for the centre console, together with the roof mount Antenna.
The cradle has been connected to the loom that was added ro the car as part of the bt install. There is also a coax cable coming out of the cradle.
This has given power to the cradle, but the IHU still reports no phone fitted.
The roof mount antenna is a glue fit item to the glass roof, and has a coax connector on it.
I am quite certain mine will not have the coax cable from the blanking point in the glass roof to the cntre console.
However I am more that happy to pit one in, but I need to get the same type of coax with the connectos the same as antenna and cradle connectors.
We have had some discussion as to why the system does not see why the phone is in the cradle there has been a suggestion that the software needs updating or the system feature needs to be added the codebook.
Can the guys with PTI go into there hiden screen to see the software version for me?
Thanks in advance. Nige - 2014 Disco 4 TDV6 HSE Luxury - Scotia Grey

Winger,
Yes the versions displayed in the Sat Nav screen by using the 753 code, I will post up the pics of mine in the same place as the other pics,
Having said that it would be nice to know what version your head unit, IE the IHU the cd and tuner is also.
TIA.

Guys,
The screen snap photos of my IHU with all the software versions on it are now in a new section of my gallery.
Comparisons to your versions would be great.
Thanks,
