Bodsy's Transmission Flush service now available!
So finally, after many many customers had been asking me if I did it, I can now say that I do!
I've just received Fortron's newest version2 of their Automatic Transmission Flush Machine. This is in addition to all of the other services I offer.
So if your auto gearbox is slow at changing gear, fluctuating revs, slight juddering or hunting between gears then your gearbox may well benefit from an ATF megaflush.
Discovery 3's, Discovery 4's and Range Rover Sports with the ZF-6HP automatic gearbox would normally expect a smooth gear change. However, according to LR, these gearboxes are supposed to be sealed for life so no service schedule includes changing the gearbox fluid.
ZF, the manufacturers of the gearbox, however, recommend that the gearbox fluid is changed around 60,000 miles. This is where a megaflush comes in!
As with any hardworking oil, the gearbox fluid in these gearboxes can get hot and generally worn out. Common signs are torque converter judder, slow and erratic gear changes and what feels like clutch slip as the engine revs but the speed does not increase. This is most common around 3rd gear going uphill or towing.
It is pretty common for the gearboxes to start to show problems from 70/80,000 miles. In most cases, an ATF flush will eliminate these problems with the new fluid. Many owners are choosing to have this ATF fluid service done at lower mileages as a preventative measure rather than wait until they start to get problems.
It's certainly far cheaper to have a transmission flush than it is to have to replace the torque converter! Not to mention, better for the gearbox and for keeping your fuel economy up!
My own Discovery covered 231,000 miles before I changed the torque converter. Even then, it was preventative rather than actually required. I put this down to regular transmission oil changes.
*Removes over 99% of old, worn out fluid
*Replaces exactly the same volume of new fluid (although I always double check the level is correct afterward)
*The correct ZF-6HP fluid is used
*Eliminates common gearbox problems
*Preventative measure for maintaining a heathy torque converter and gearbox

I don't like the "tight" word, prefer "careful".
