I know the "how to release a stuck bonnet" tricks have been historically kept "secret" as it could be used by someone wishing to steal e.g. headlamps.
To that end, I've never shared it with newbies or low-post-count members.
HOWEVER it's worth noting that
1. scrotes don't care about damaging a grille, so can accomplish "step 1" of the process easily. And if they know "step 1" it's almost a given they know the rest.
2. as these cars are getting older, there are more failures.
3. Other marques, one being an anagram of Jugara, have forums where this info is NOT kept from the public - so if you're half-competent at filtering the cr4p that Google returns, you can find a reasonable set of instructions.
I'm going to suggest we make it available without the need for PMs , which I feel guilty about not noticing sometimes, so I think there are 2 options ...
1. put it on the "normal" bits of the forum - visible to all members but also to the public at large.
2. have it somewhere only forum members can see it ? needs Martin's input to achieve - as far as I'm aware the only bits of the forum shielded from Google etc. require sign-up, so "normal" forum members wouldn't get to see it. (Like the "Politics" area).
Any thoughts ?.
Dean

A forum area for things like this would be good. Minimum number of posts before you can access the area, and approval from mod/admin required My D3 Build Thread
I like the idea of this information being available to members with a history on the site. The way you have been sharing the information is great, but does mean you are the weak link as well.
Martin will be best placed to implement a solution, but maybe something like a Security section that is unlocked after thresholds are reached, which could mean post count (thinking not DSL volumes) and time based.
The ideal behind a Security section is that we can share other tips for security that we do not necessarily want the wider public to know. For example, if someone was to perform an unauthorised removal of my grill I would expect the alarm to go off. This is not something I want know publicly.
Regards,
Steve

It hasn’t been a problem, so don’t make it one. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the status quo prevailing.

I voted forum members only
However, I think maybe Jords has a point, is this really an issue and are there that many "security" issues that would be posted in a "members only" section ?Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector
