Bonnet Open message
Hi,
Had this once before and the problem went away all on its own - now its back though.
The 'Bonnet Open' message is displayed, but the bonnet is fully shut (i've open and closed it several times to no effect. Most annoyingly is that whenever I lock the car now the horn 'Beeps' to remind me the Bonnet is open.
Can someone tell me where the sensor is for the bonnet, and whether it might be stuck in the open position?

Hi Lawrence The best short term fix is to disconnect the plug from the bottom of the right hand bonnet catch, and join the terminals on the plug together with a paper clip.
This will make the car think the bonnet is shut and allow you to lock it up properly. Ultimately, the switch will either need cleaning, adjusting or replacing.

Have had this problem on two Disco '3, there has been a fix on the site before ie wrap some insulating tape around the offside bonnet catch.
The sensor gap for some reason seems to widen indicating "bonnet open" when it is not.
On both occassions it has worked for me.

Thanks for the advice.
Went in search of the plug and socket and discovered why the problem had gone away last time - I had jammed a paper-clip into the plug (as per Gareth's advice). Must have been a long time ago I did that.
Anyway, couldn't do it again as the paper-clip had rusted away and snapped off in the plug, so I resorted to a more 'permanent' solution and put on one of those 'nasty' blue clip things that joins 2 wires together.
Sorted.

Just had the bonnet open problem on mine.
First I wired the sensor out (paper clip job).
I then decided to have a look at the problem.
The root is a ly design of micro switch, with a long, floppy,curved spring to operate the switch.
A slight gentle increase in the spring radius and now the sensor is working properly. You have to remove the switch from its mounting, and the plastic clip rather brittle (or at is when its minus something or other...), there are two small plastic clips that have to be pressed in with a screwdriver while pulling the switch down - I broke one, but the other one of the two is holding tight for now......
It took longer to work out what to do than actually do it!Rob Smith

just an idea...when you opened the bonnet did you open it fully....as same happened to me last week whilst topping up screenwash...i didnt open the bonnet fully...slammed it shut but signal on dash told me bonnet was open....went through whole proceedure and finally opened bonnet fully and hey presto

it doesnt matter if the bonnet is fully opened or not. the switch under the rhs catch opens when the bonnet is first released. it just gets covered in mud and needs a good clean. you can take it off easily to clean and overide it as gareth suggests until you can get a replacement if needed
slamming the bonnet shut a few times can jolt the switch into working again if its just a case of it not seated properlyDuncan
