Bonnet Re-spray - Advice?

Some little Censored keyed my D4 right acorss the bonnet when it was just 1 week old (I don't mind admitting it nearly made me Big Cry )

I have got a quote via my dealer who sub out to a local Land Rover approved body shop but the quote to re-spary just the one panel was just shy of £800!

This seems expensive to me but I have little experience in this area. What do others think?

The cost of the paint alone was quoted at £275?

They have also quoted about £60 for a new bonnet badge - cannot they just remove and replace the existing?

Should I/Do I need to go to a LR approved body shop?

Can anyone recommend any other options near to the North London area?

Thanks

Be wary of a paint shop re-applying the Land Rover bonnet letters. Had my bonnet resprayed a few years ago and the paint shop and it looked like they let a blindfolded monkey reapply the letters. Proper measurement and guide for bonnet letter replacement is in my gallery Thumbs Up

Sorry to hear about the damage.

I'd take the car to the dealer so that the warranty is not affected. I will be taking my 11 day old car to the dealer this week for panel and paint rectification - though it's not the result of vandalism or accident damage....

Can you post some pictures of the damage? Maybe (just maybe) it could be polished out? A lot of the little scrotes don't actually manage to cut through the clearcoat as it tends to be a passing thing.

Depending on the amount of damage and the colour you may well have several options.

Dom.

I had bird lime damage to the bonnet and a dented rear pillar. Body Care Southwick Sussex made super job of repair and respray and, they also polished the whole remaining paintwork to remove bramble rash. £350 and it looks like new. I did have to put my own lettering back but, templated before I sent it.

I'm no expert on the painting side of things but as far as the letters go, they come on a template that you remove once stuck on. They have self adhesive tape on them and it would not be practable to re-use the originals. LR charge about £30 for the LAND & £30 for the ROVER. I got a genuine set last year from John Craddock on Ebay for £10 and fitted myself Thumbs Up

Dom, thanks for your PM and suggestions. I read your link to the detaling thread, looks like a great job was done, but it all looked a bit scary, not something I'm likey to try myself I think!

Following on from your thoughts though, I did take it along to a local company who do that kind thing as was told the scratches were too deep - which to be honest is probably what I thought.

The car got picked up yesterday and is off to the landrover approved body shop, got a bit of discount which helped.

May be seeing some more of the body shop as someone managed to dush the wife's 1 month old Freelander 2 as well, at least that was an accident though and they hung around and admitted full liabitly - not having much luck though are we!
