Boot liner / mat recommendations

Hi all,

Recently got a dog (Collie) and he’s growing fast. When this lockdown is over I can see us doing lots of runs to the beach.
I’ve been looking at boot liners / mats and there seems to be a bewildering array. I don’t want to spend big bucks but don’t want to pointlessly spend cash on something that is useless.

Any recommendations?

TIA

Dave

I have a couple, the newest was a full length (up to the back of the front seats) from https://www.ukcustomcovers.com/ - I'm impressed with it for the cost, sturdy and well fitted. You probably won't want a full length, but they will probably have one for the boot only.

I then have the standard rubber mat on the floor on top of the cover.

I would go with the standard JLR mat.

What you do need is a way to restrain your Collie to comply with the law.

TransK9 make excellent cages - https://www.transk9.com/ I have had a couple & they are excellent. Second hand ones are available on their website or can be purchased here from time to time.

I have and use both, but the alternative is probably a Cargo Barrier - The JLR Part Number is VUB501170. There's one for sale here at an excellent price:-

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/sale-full-h...88795.html

Note it's missing the fittings, which may be difficult to acquire.

Good luck.

Thanks all. I think I’ve seen these on eBay, so will have a look again later.

Is it worth getting a mat to on top of that aswell?

Thanks again for help so far

+1 for the above.
Custom cover rear boot liner with LR mat over the top.
The velcro that comes with the custom cover is rubbish but another forum member recommends velcro pads from Toolstation as a replacement.

I used the same Hatchbag liner for 13 years on all my Disco’s along with the flexible LR rubber mat. The cover for the tailgate lasted 10 years before I replaced it.

I’ve gone for the same set up with the FFRR. These photos show just the liner not the boot mat.

One of the first things I bought for my D3 in early 2005 was a full load liner from LR, could line the whole load area with both sets of rear seats down and protect the tailgate and front seat backs - it was superb, lost count of number of tip runs with no interior damage, used to roll up and fit on the floor in the gap between the final rear seat and the tail gate. Sold it on this site when I sold the D4. I’d recommend something similar.

Hatchbag gets my vote. I've had one in my D4 in conjunction with a TravAll boot mat for about 2 years now and it's put up with working Braccos and Spaniels, plus two Bassets and a large Lab. Also used for tip runs full of garden waste. Still in perfectly sound condition. The only issue is the Velcro tends to come unstuck from the plastic trim panels but that's no big deal.

I use a bootbuddy liner. The advantage is that it's semi-rigid so a) it doesn't need loads of velcro to hold it in place and b) it's easy to get in and out, you just slide it.

+1 for boot buddy.
You can buy the extra liner that slides inside it to cover the whole load area when all seats are down. They do rubber mats to fit inside it to keep the dog from sliding about and keep the dog comfy and also a liner that goes over the lower boot door carpet to keep it clean. Managed to work well with my Irish Wolfhound for 6 years and great for carrying loads (bags of rubble, boxes etc) and keeping everything clean.
Not cheap though.

Sounds handy. I might give that a try.

Velcro can be pain. The best solution I’ve found is to first use the recommended Bug and Tar remover on the plastic trim where you fix the Velcro to and then use paint preparation wipes (Halfords) to go over the same area with. So far so good. 👍
