Boot Power Socket Removal

Hi,

I am looking at fitting some USB charging points in the boot, in the little pop out bits behind the drinks holder. I can get these out fine but cant seem to get the rear cigarette / power socket out. My plan was to just link into this socket to power the USB chargers and also maybe another socket or 2. I have already fitted a USB next to the power socket and AUX in the centre console, but as we will be using the disco to drive to Spain in May, I want plenty of points for the kids to run tablets, phones etc, I also have a small inverter that is used to charge laptops.

My question is, how do I get the rear socket out? I have tried prying it with plastic trim remover but it snapped the end off, and I thought that was a good point to stop and ask for help.

My other option was to link into the tow electrics and I have checked the manual and assume that the "ignition feed" is power only when the ignition is on and "battery feed" is permanent (will check with multimeter later). I wanted to check which side of the fuse black is the outgoing side, again I can check with a meter assuming there is a permanent live there. If I do go down this route I will fuse it down anyway, but would prefer to be on the outgoing side if possible.

Thanks
Paul

ref the last para.

I'd fuse it on the input side of the fuses (if you going to fuse it down anyway) and leave those fuses to protect the towbar sockets.

The wires are already fused at the front of the car
