I am beginning to suffer a bit of brake vibration in recent weeks.
It is no problem until brakes applied, and then not noticeable if applied heavily, but light to medium braking is giving vibration back up the steering column - I am guessing it is warped discs - anyone had similar or know what it is

You are probably right, if the disks are very worn with a ridge at the edge, then this can happen for a while after you fit new pads as the rough edge grinds the edge of the pad away.
If you have got new discs, then possibly got some dirt behind one of them whilst fitting.
If none of the above, then probably just warped

I had an issue with the ol brake on the front passanger side. turned out to be the wheel balance lead jammed in behind the brake caliper. fiddled about with a screwdriver and out she came. no bother since

Worn fron suspension arm bushes may also give a knock on braking.
Its more vibration than a knock, thanks anyway.

Wear in ball joints, steering rack bushes or rod ends as well and worn or poorly adjusted wheel bearings can also jointly or individually contribute to some steering oscillation or vibration under brakes, time for a health check.

I suffered the same brake judder the other day on my way to Berkshire 4x4 show. I confided with some friends including Non Stick Nick and we put it down to over heated discs. It had gone by the time i went home and as yet has not re-appeared.05,Tonga Green, SE, Black HOOD like glass, Tundra leather,AT2`s and much reading of instruction book. Early Chrimbo present 07

Are you wearing different shoes In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
No not really, - in fact when I have thin hard soles would make it more easy to detect.
The route I take routinely does not have the same requirement for prolonged light braking down hill, so it may still be there but with no mountains or no van on the back it's not noticeable.
