Brake lights come on when lights switched on, HDC off + low

Hi all - i switched on the headlights then 20 mins later the HDC deactivates, the car lowers and the brake lights come on permanently.
If i stop and re start it all resets fine.

Anything Ive missed here in the search as i can see plenty on the HDC etc but nothing on brake lights being stuck on.

Thanks in advance Neutral

ideas

1) replace both brake light bulbs with good quanity ones. Osram, Ring
For the cost got to be worth a go! And not unknown on these

2) bad earth at rear of car ? or rear clusters

bad earth would probably show up if the intensity of the lights changes when other rear lights are lit. ever followed a Fiat Punto of about 2003 vintage ?

As the brake light bulb and the brake switch are known problems that cause stupid unexplained problems and given there low cost I would recommend them first, Osram Bulbs can be got from europarts. If it still does it after that you will need codes read to diagnose more, after you have replaced these bits i would read the codes keep a record and then clear them so you are starting with a blank canvas so to speak.
