Brake Pad change, which jack |
|
My brake pad warning light came on today and good old TLO is sending over new front and rear pads together with new wear sensors.
The only hydraulic jack I have is rated for 1.5 tonnnes, which is a bit weedy for the D3 I think. Even though it is only one corner it makes alarming creaking noises. It also doesn't have the reach really to lift the D3.
Where's a good place to get a jack and axle stand so I won't risk it landing on my head.
Needless to say although the pad warning light has only been on a day, the bong is very annoying already.

machinemart were good and cheap for axle stands
They sell jacks too (Clarke) but I know some are better than others - someone will be able to recommend one. I bought a Halfords one but wouldn't do it again (and don't get me started on their tyre compressors and attitude to customers when they break...)
I don't know about the Clarke jacks but had good support from machinemart getting a spare part for a Clarke pressure washer last year.

I purchased the machine mart (clarke) ctj3000g 3 tonne jack about 3 months ago, perfect for the d3, however, i'm awaiting delivery of the jack adaptor from neild found in the link below. This should make all the difference.

Andy,
Don't know if this helps, but I do have two of the standard D3 jacks. You're welcome to borrow them. If you were to use them and your airjack you'd be pretty safe.
Let me know if you want a hand.

My 3T Quick lift jack failed, and they replaced it and allowed me to trade up to the heavy duty 3T as well, some of the best customer care i have experienced, machine mart therefore come highly recommended in my book I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. The 3T ones aren't high enough, get their (or Screwfix's) 6T ones, then you have plenty of height range Pretty cheap too Bodsys Brake Bible

Ratchet mechanism does make it easy to adjust them under the vehicle as well I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

My 3T ones at that height, weren't high enough, maybe the wheel had gone into extended mode or something, but the 6t ones go to 540 I think Bodsys Brake Bible

I found Guy Salmon had a jack at just the right hight!
You are welcome to my air jack or would that be a bit sketchy? (Still need axel stands!). Off Roading is OK.... But I'd rather be Boating!

I got my stands from Axminster Tool Centre, were cheaper the Screwfix and at the time only ones that did the collapsable type which are easier to store. LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Thanks for the info, the 6T one's from Machine Mart look like a good deal.
The quote to have the brakes done was £520 and given it is not a difficult job I thought I would do it myself.
EDIT: Plus the bong sound is really annoying, so want to do it ASAP
