Brake Pad Life
After a trip to Yeovil today for the po17 recall, i was told that my Brake pads, Front and Rear, Needed replacing soon.
The rear pads were fitted by yeovil 8000 miles ago in July and they need replacing
Was wondering what sort of life others were getting from their pads?
I have an 06 TDV6 'S' auto with about 83k on the clock, I do tow with it quite a bit and i know that this makes a difference, but 8000 miles seems a bit low for genuine pads!

On my last d3 (manual ) changed pads at 51000 miles ...changed all disks and pads ( for kevlar pads this time ) at 85000 miles due to 2 long drives to Bulgaria ...sold it at 118000 ..still loads of pad life left .
I would certianly not be pleased at 8000 miles ..did you see the pads ..or was it normal dealer talk ?G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

My D3 (auto) had a full set at 59k - now at 73k and about 30% worn, so that would suggest a set will average at around 60k
Still on the original disks all round, but fronts on on the to do list
I would suspect pads wear quicker on an auto due to the lack of engine braking (well, to the same degree as a manual)
One thing I'm flababergasted at is the rate at which a D3 eats tyres can't seem to get more than 25k) by contracst my last LR (04MY D2) managed a fantastic 118k on a set of BF AT's Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k

I didn't see the pads this time, but when I had the service at 75k, they showed me the pads before replacing them. When they were replaced, the deler said that the fronts would need replacing at the next service (90k)
But I didn't expect the back ones to only last half the service interval time
I was told that if i was towing alot, the back pads would wear out quicker

had the pads changed all round at 28,000 miles on the last one (auto)

Just done my pads and discs all round, ( auto XS) I used the kevlar pads and the drilled disks from fleebay, just done 24000 miles and I thought while I had to remove all four wheels I might as well change them all, the pads where low but not dangerous and my front discs where grooved and a bit worn but again nothing pressing..
I also put new tyres and wheels on that I bought at the beginning of this year, gone from 18" to 17" and its made a big difference to the ride, a lot better.

At 30000 miles I've been told by my dealer that the rear pads need replacing, though the fronts are fine apparently. I dont tow.
I am surprised though that rears wear more quickly than the front especially as the fronts do more of the braking action. Is this related to the pad compounds maybe?D3 HSE, Stornoway grey, 2007 MY, side steps, privacy glass, door protection strips.
