Brake switch fault not?

My D3 has run well until the dash lit up with warning lights. Gave me the limited speed, lowered suspension,an F in the gear selector window et al.
Read up on here and replaced the brake switch with a new one, in fact two new ones. A nine quid posted one and then I thought it must have been a cheap copy which didn’t work so another new switch from Rimmer bros for twice as much. This morning it has done the Christmas tree dash lights again. Says HDC fault system when fitted with the new expensive original switch.
It is going at ten miles mph in the limp mode.
Anyone got any ideas where to start looking next? The brake lights work. Should I change them just in case? Rear light bulbs and indicators too?
Any connectors I should be cleaning or parts to replace? This is effectively tethering the car to side roads and quiet stretches of A road. Only really usable around town at the moment in case it throws the dash lights....
Thanks in advance, John.

At what point does the fault kick in? How is the battery? When I had a faulty brake switch, as soon as you pushed the brake pedal a reasonable amount, it would bing and drop the suspension. If you didn't touch the brakes it would be fine.

The battery appears fine. I topped up the charge a fortnight ago with a battery charger. It’s starting fine. Will read the voltages once my daughter brings it home- she’s borrowed it thinking it was fixed!
I have a basic code reader . I’ll try that when the car gets home.

The battery was the one the car came with when I bought it a few months ago. I have no idea of its vintage. That may be a good place to start.
Are there any wiring blocks which are known to throw the dash lights on?
I really thought the brake switch fitted all of the symptoms.
My daughter still has the car and I may be out later when she gets back with it so it could be sat or sun before I can do the battery voltages.

Does £146 sound about right for a battery for my car. 2007 Discovery 3.

Do you have a local eurocarparts etc? They nearly always have sales on. The price sounds about right, they are big batteries! Go for a good brand too, Bosch etc.

Do D3s have any issues with alternators.? My daughters Freelander ate one earlier this year.
Is it worth checking it’s output? What should I expect it to be on tickover please?
Do they respond well to new brushes in them?

Hi,

When mine had the failure like yours it was just the brake bulb. A code read showed lots and lots of codes but nothing indicating the source. Its a oddity of the D3 that the bake voltage throws everything out.

Other than battery and alternator as discussed....

Check that the blubs are all ok, I think there are two per side so check that both are working and good quality (maybe change) also check they are not cheap LEDs. Maybe the last owner changed them for some sales bling and they are crapping out?

These are long shots but easy to change and check so worth a punt IMO.
