Hi All,
Only 2 days ago I found the bad connection in the foot brake switch that was causing the HDC fault light to come on, now I've hit more problems!!!!!!
The wife had it for a run to town today and said that the HDC fault came on after a while and that she felt alot of vibration through the steering wheel, she slowed and pulled to the side of the road to see steam coming from the from wheels.
Anyway when she finally got home I took it out for a drive myself.
It seems like the brakes are applied slightly when driving as even with the clutch in going down a slight hill the car slowed up. And after a mile or so the HDC fault came on, which I'm assuming is due to heat.
When I returned home I got a bucket of water and went round all 4 wheels throwing water on them and steam came off them all!!!! If anything the front was hotter than the rear, and as I said all 4 wheels were hot!!!
There are no lights on in the dash and again the HDC light only came on after a mile or so. Any ideas where to start? I think my Discovery owner days are numbered...............

Hi D2Nator,
From what I remember you repaired the brake switch. Maybe you should replace it instead - maybe it's still causing problems. It shouldn't be too expensive.
The trembling feeling (usually accompanied by a squealing noise) also happens with EPB problems, I think, you may check various posts regarding this.
Last, avoid throwing cold water on your hot brakes, as this could damage the brake disks, although the steam coming off them can be quite impressive!

I hear what your saying about the brake switch, but there was no physical damage to the contacts of the switch but I will get another one just incase.
As for the EPB, I'm doubting its that as all four brakes were hot not just the rear ones. If anything the front was hotter.
Any other ideas?

I know this might sound daft, but your wife doesn't drive with her handbag on the HDC switch does she? Wouldn't be the first time this has happened. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Take a look at these threads 
If the HDC button has not been pressed accidently as NoDo$h has suggested, then 2 other possibilities are low battery charge, and faulty/incorrect rear stop lamps
If the car has been driven for any amount of time, then the brakes are likely to be hot as they will have been used just before you got out of the car, so hot brakes might possibly be a red herring.

Haha, nothing would surprise me, but I took it out for a short spin myself last night and after a while the HDC warning came on and from what I've read on the forum etc I'm sure it was due to heat in the discs/pads rather than the faulty brake switch. (the manual says something about too much heat causing probs with the HDC system)
Now unless the HDC button is wired through the brake switch also? but when I was driving at least, the green HDC light was not on in the dash.

Well I swapped round the brake bulbs and the other twin element ones below the indicators. They looked identical to me unless someone can correct me. I didn't force a single element bulb in the wrong place or anything like that.
Went an approx 1 mile round trip journey just there though alot of puddles (Irish summer!) And the brakes are still hot to touch when I got out too hot for comfort.
I'm thinking of removing the bulbs and or switch again and testing driving to see for improvements.
