B'rakhah Ingonyama Refurb Project

Some of you may have seen a few posts about this already, but I recently purchased a South African built B'rakhah Ingonyama expedition caravan/trailer.

First outing was Peterborough with SWMBO and the three kids (not doing it en mass again!!!) and it was great but, as you'd expect from a 15 year old caravan, it did highlight a few things that need attention.

First thing's first (and SWMBO's in charge of this as frankly I couldn't care) we're replacing and re-upholstering foam cushions and mattresses. I appreciate that the upholstery doesn't look good, but it is what it is and definitely of it's age and provenance.

I'm also going to get some of the numerous rubber seals around doors, windows and roof elements replaced soon, as well as adding a second 115ah leisure battery.

The first big thing though will be getting the pop-out tent and pop-up roof fabric replaced with something akin to the ripstop used by Tuff-Trek, etc. So if anyone knows of a company that can re-man tents, please let me know. Thumbs Up

Beyond this, I'd like to swap out the sliding windows on each side with something more modern looking and perhaps similar to those from Polyplastic/Polyvision that also incorporate flyscreens and blinds on the inside.

Additionally, the numerous awnings that came with the trailer (over the roof tent, full-length side and toilet/shower) are so heavy I would like to think they too can be re-manufcatured using a lightweight material.

Inside the outside!!!

Anyway, will hope to update this as things progress. Would have loved to bring it to the Lydney camp but have already committed to St. Ives I'm afraid.

Would be lovely but when you add shipping, duty, VAT, etc., they're bloody expensive!

Hello, what a cracking trailer, I am glad you bought it, my bid finger was hovering!!

You may find speaking to Pro Fabrics would useful. I have done a fair bit of research to try and locate some wax converters product in the UK to no avail. But on speaking to Pro Fabrics and discussing with a number of guys the Regentex (see link) is on par and judging by the roll I have sat in my spare room for my trailer it looks and feels very good.

If you want a point of contact to re-do the awnings try JKC sewing. They are in South Wales and didn't bat an eyelid at my scribbled drawings for my camp trailer and will be starting on my custom awning in a week or so.

Good luck Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
Ill be there in a minute!!!

Many thanks, Deerfold. Appreciate the link. Will take a closer look.

I'm taking it to a local textiles specialist tomorrow that, amongst other things, manufacture tents, awnings and marquees. Hope they'll be able to shed some light and give me a quote.

Looking to install a diesel-powered space heater (or similar) into the trailer for the colder months and wondered if anyone has any recommendations having installed similar?

Been looking at Eberspächer and/or Webasto for diesel or Propex for gas-powered.

Just a question, but are these caravans useful in the UK? Surely it would be better to purchase something local?

They're like a hybrid between a caravan and trailer tent I suppose. Can't see why they're not useful in the UK. Mine has fully opening doors on both sides, so safety when parked on the road isn't an issue.
