Ran one for 53k miles over 30months. Apart from software updates that only thing that failed was front suspension drop rods ( one at 30k, the other at 52k).

Even VW were surprised at the mileage and were full of questions.

Read something that said it’s going to cost £32M to replace all the 30mph signs with 20mph signs in wales. FFS wouldn’t that be better spent on other public services.

I wouldn't worry about. Its 20mph around where I am and most ignore it.

I rode out of town on Saturday at 35kph on my gravel bike and was passed by numerous cars. I then went up to 40kph (on my GPS) to see if the cars would still pass .....oh yes...

Next time I will try it on my road bike which has taller gearing Thumbs Up

My home town (Margate) has had a 20mph speed limit for the sea front & much of the town centre.

The thing is, when it's needed (during the summer) the roads are that busy you are lucky to overtake pedestrians & when it's not (in the winter) 30mph is not an issue.

Some areas do not need enforced 20mph limits - they are, in effect self-regulat

For all Rishi's announcements, it will be local authorities and councils that will deliver 2030 targets for him with ULEZ, despite his election posturing. Also, industry is to far down the road to U-Turn.

I have family and friends in Wales who are freaking out and losing their minds about the 20mph limit devoid of the fact that some of us have been subject to 20mph limit for some considerable time e.g. in my experience, within Greater London, particularly since 2020.

I believe that 20 mph is an appropriate application that requires enforcement in certain circs e.g. outside schools, hospitals etc ... everywhere else however and where unenforced I will continue to drive as fast as I can to the local conditions and circumstances. This applies to the 3 days a week I drive from Surrey into Holborn, undertaken mainly without relative pain.

My view is suck it up where enforced and take advantage where not ...sleep easy Thumbs Up

I'll have to find it later but I read the other week that a large engine making facility is being built with Chinese and, IIRC, French money... somewhere in southern England.

The thing is, it's PETROL engines.

I thought it odd at the time, but it makes a whole lot of sense now. Can't imagine they had insider knowledge.

Enforcement of the 30 mph limit would have been more effective than imposing a change to an unenforced 20 mph limit. A limit of 20 mph in cities and urban areas where the traffic is not going much faster than that anyway isn't too bad. If I worked in the nearest large town (Carmarthen) it would be a sixteen mile commute each way, ten miles at 50 mph limit, six at 30 mph = 32 minutes. Change the latter to 20 mph and it is 'only' an extra three minutes but it seems like an eternity! Even 20 mph can be too fast.

The whole 20 mph project is supposed to be [Skid] Mark Drakeford's lasting legacy for Wales - in the same way that the War on Terror was Tony Blair's lasting legacy.

More enforcement and education (Rule 126 of the Highway Code being a prime example) would have been better use of the funds but, hey, a more-or-less bankrupt nation is stilling spending on rainbow zebra crossings (£19K a pop) and has a small army of civil servants deployed on 'woke' duties that nobody wants and nobody asked for. We are now being told that a rise in Council Tax will have to come to cover all the £55 signs that have gone missing / defaced.

Walesonline reports the results of a survey that more people support the 20 mph limit than oppose it. That is the same sort of result as when people are asked about getting drivers out of cars and onto public transport - they agree when it is other people that has to do it.

I agree with the 20 mph limit and (the law is the law) drive at or below it. I don't agree with the way it has been imposed and I don't agree with the pre-declared lack of enforcement.

Meeting a client last night, I was stuck on the M4 elevated section and the satnav said I was 6.5 miles from Mayfair, journey time 50 minutes. We don't need 20mph zones round here, there's little chance of getting anywhere at that speed.

The 'extension' to 2035 on ICE cars doesn't really change anything as far as I know.

They haven't changed the deadline/policy/penalty around percentage of produced volume having to be EV by 2030 for mainstream manufacturers have they?

I also don't 'get' industry saying this change is a business killer, wrong, negatively impact them, etc. if EV vehicles are the answer/solution to 'everything' then being first out the blocks and 'ahead of the curve' (to use an industry cliché) is surely a business advantage over the competition isn't it Rolling Eyes

Also any of the 'big players' are bought into 2030 now in terms of development of 'committed funds', that's unless of course ICE is really the best/profitable/easiest things to make and Censored all the garbage about emissions led, etc.

Hang on, I'm going up several hills in Snowdonia on Saturday. So does this mean anywhere I used to pass through a town is now 20mph not 30mph? Like llanrwst? Have they changed the signs?!

Bit of a mixed bag at the moment. Most 20mph, but some are 30mph and others still 40mph. I got passed doing 25mph in a 20mph by a van and a car so I chased the Censored once it went to national speed limit applies.... half wheeling in annoyance (Moo will understand). Yep 20mph to 40mph to 60mph in the space of a few hundred metres

It doesn't work that well in Wales

Not so. Some portions of roads that were 30 mph have been reduced to 20 mph but not the whole of (what was) a continuous 30 mph section. Don't ask me what criteria are used.

Apart from where the signs have been stolen...
Apart from where the signs have been spray-painted over...
Apart from where the contractors mucked-up the changes...

and

Everyone seems to have increased their speeds as some sort of protest. The queues of traffic behind a car doing 20 mph remind me of films of D-Day convoys. Whatever the speed limit, whatever the conditions or dangerous bends, expect some nutter to be overtaking.

Various contractors put the 'speed safety camera' signs back up the wrong way, meaning you can't be prosecuted as there is improper signage.

I think it is A Good Thing but poorly thought-out. It is only A Good Thing if it reduces average speeds, which it hasn't. I tell people to stop moaning: if they'd driven at 30 mph or less, the impetus to go to 20 mph would have been less. 50% of traffic in a 30 mph limit was over the limit.

Driving standards round here are generally cr@p. When my wife goes out for a ride, her horse has two saddles - the second one is for a tail-gunner.
