broken handbrake cable

good afternoon would anyone be able to tell me how i can get the handbrake into the service position so that the cable is fully slack

the cable has snapped the nipple from the end that attaches to the shoe but i have a feeling the cable is not fully released so when i come to repair i wont be able to refit the disc, my iid tool when i checked said its not possible to select mounting/service position due to "undetermined position" and the dash is saying "emergency release activated lift lever to reengage"

when the cable snapped it screeched but did not lock on, the handbrake was released just not working with a flashing red park light on the dash

i am more than able to replace the cable and shoes just not sure what to expect when i come to do the job regarding the position of the cable on the handbrake module the other side was released and in good order as i do check and adjust every 6 months any advise regarding this gratefully accepted thanks
 please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick,thankyou
