'A' Bull Bar - fitting
OK. So I went out and bought an 'A' Bull Bar
Today I decided to fit it, and followed the LR Bull Bar instructions 8)
Part of instructions refer to another manual on how to remove bumper
Decided didn't need manual (as didn't have one) and would undo everything on/near bumper
Result... Plastic Bumper rock-solid, wheel arch firmly in place, no screw of fittings left to undo
Put everything back together again and leave for another day Coffeecup

Have you had any luck with the bumper yet?
I spoke to a LR technecian yesterday about it and he said this...
Grill out...
Lights out.....
Wheel arch trim out.....
Pull spats out, and only then can you get to all the bolts holding the bumper on...........
oh!!
How much to get LR to fit if? i ask....

Step by step guide, and pics would be great......
He also said be carefull with the clips under the wheel arch!!!!

Could`nt wait no longer...
Had a few hours spare so i fitted my A-bar today..
The hardest thing about it was removing the spotlights fitted on the bumper, which i will now have to fit upside down to the A-bar.. But dont have the correct fixing bracket. (anyone got a pair?)
There are also two big holes in the bumper where the lights were before...doh
Sticky back plastic should do the job.

Two black plastic bungs. Not the matt rubber ones, hard plastic from RS Components?

Otherwise i`ll have to ask my dealer, who will then say "Spotlights" "A-bar"

Strangely, the parts catalogue doesn't bring anything obvious up
I'm sure I've seen D3's with the plastic A-bar and the spots 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

And exactly how many animals do you encounter on your daily drive arounds ?
Sorry but cannot see the point of these things unless you need to nudge trees, bushes, bulls, kangaroos, deer, elephants etc out the way... why ?
Winch yes... if you off road but bull bars... ???
Sorry I'm not quite fitting into the flow here.
The front of the D3 is designed to do as little damage to other vehicles and especially pedestrians as is possible. The 'chin' of the D3 is very low down for this very purpose and there's a lot of air behind the plastic valence to help dissipate energy, thus helping preserve life, legs, abdomens etc... oh and the metal of other cars.
With the recent press around car bumpers and especially the height of SUV bumpers this is not the thing to do to your D3.
Fitting a metal or plastic bull bar / A frame destroys all in front of the vehicle without predudice... whilst saving the front of the D3. Don't make sense.
Personally I would rather break my car than someone's life...
OK they look cool but are they really required ?

OK... Rant over and no personal offence intended... especially as Coffeecup has a habit of driving into clay filled pits

My guess is this!!
I think the dealer must have thrown away the left over bits when they fitted the bumper kit, so i dont know exactly..
what i do know is my mrs bought these for me as a surprise last christmas, when i picked up the car.(ahh).
Did`nt know how much she paid till much later. Nearly 700quid.................
For a pair of spotlights...............ouch
Anyway where was i.........................
Original plastic bracket would be great!!!!!!!!!!!

Spots should fit direct to the A-bar, extra brackets are only required for bumper or nudge bar fitting, what do the spot or A-bar instructions show?The End

Dead easy to do...
Have you got fitting instructions?
Mark holes for 33mm drill to the low side!! on some masking tape or similar..
Get it dead center!!
Grill out (6 clips) easy...
Lights out (pull up slidey things) and unplug connectors. (easy)
Towing eye cover (7 crappy screw clips) (easy)
Bumper, 5 Torx screws underneath/ 1 either end of bumper and about 7/ 8mm hex heads on top.
Wheelarch trim/ undo 1 crosshead screw with a dumpy screwdriver at the bottom inside wheelarch. And the other is inside the headlight area. Only then can you pull the arch trim out far enough to get to the Torx screw at each end of the bumper..
It will then just pull out forwards. UNDO fog light connectors to get enough slack, then drill your 33mm holes. Fit left and right brackets NOT as you look at it but away from the car (Strange)
